Hello there,

I want to check and adjust the injection timing, etc., using the VAG 1551 tester. Does anyone know how to do that?
I have one that I'm borrowing.
Best regards, Kai.

Hi,

Just like with VAG-COM...
I am unable to access external websites or specific files online, including the URL you provided. Therefore, I cannot translate the text from the German link.

Greetings, Rainer.

Hi Kai, just like Rainer mentioned, it's a shame that your mileage isn't listed.
Do you have a suitable diagram in your book?

I have no idea which book it's in, but do you have a diagram for the AEL or AAT of the 3rd generation?

Hello,

A lucky coincidence led me to acquire the original Repleit guide.
Direct injection diesel system (AAT/ABP/AEL). Everything is included in the description.
What more could one want? icon_lol.gif

For AAT 3rd generation, I'm looking for information on function 04, which is the basic setting.
(Spritzversteller set on maximum late) The following diagram:

http://people.freenet.de/kmrlange/Grundeinstellung_04_1200umin.jpg

A-Display field 2 Injection start -------> (measured: 40) icon_exclaim.gif
B-display field 9 fuel temperature -> (measured: 100) icon_exclaim.gif
I think it's well-composed for a handheld shot, don't you?
'Don't tell me I can't hit the mark - oh no, I can, you see icon_biggrin.gif'

Okay, now here's the diagram for the AEL, showing the behavior with a changed speed:

http://people.freenet.de/kmrlange/Grundeinstellung_04_1000umin.jpg

Now, in function 04-Basic Settings, display group 000, the speed will be displayed.
It automatically increases to 1200 RPM. icon_eek.gif Can I not measure at 1000 RPM at all?

What now? Should I use function 00-Basic settings instead of function 04-Basic settings?
Can you start it at 1000 RPM manually (or with your foot)? But isn't the injection timing not set to its maximum late position?

Best regards, Kai.

P.S.: Is that correct: Display field 2, injection start, smaller value means early, larger value means late?

Hi Kai, if your motor increases its speed to 1200 RPM in the basic setting mode, then also take note of the diagram.
As far as I know, AAT (3rd generation) and AEL are the same.
Ideally, when the fuel temperature is 120, set the injection start timing to 46; this will satisfy both performance curves.

Hello mersente,

I would actually only be able to achieve the specifications of the second diagram with 1000 RPM. I could also disconnect the ESP connector, which would then set the ignition timing to its maximum value.

But am I correct in assuming that with the current setting of 100/40 at 1200 RPM?
whose basic settings are prematurely adjusted?
In other words, the regulation may not achieve the required maximum late enrollment rate.

I assume that 'max spät' is only needed for the initial start-up in cold temperatures, correct?
--> Since it started perfectly fine even without the glow plugs working, I think it's okay to leave it as it is. And I'll save myself the trouble.

Best regards, KAi.

Hi Kai, your values are quite close to the ideal line according to the first diagram.
If I were in your position, I wouldn't change anything.
As long as the values are within the outer lines, you don't need to adjust anything.

Best regards, KAi.
