Golf 4 Climatronic Error 1271: Fix & Troubleshooting

On warmer days, I noticed that my Climatronic system, even when set to 22 degrees Celsius, was still heating the interior to 25 degrees Celsius. Only when I set the temperature below 20 degrees Celsius does cold air come out of the vents.
The diagnostic reading showed the error '1271 - Temperature control flap actuator - defective - intermittent.'
As additional information, it was stated that the 'fault in the aforementioned component, or a break/short circuit... check cables/connectors for proper connection/corrosion.'
Now, my question:
- Where exactly is this actuator located?
- Where are the corresponding cables and connectors?
- Has anyone experienced this error before? What solutions are available, and what are the costs involved?

It's a Golf iV TDI, 90 horsepower, manufactured in 2000, with AGR seats.

The temperature control flap and its servo motor are located inside the car, underneath the dashboard.

Take a look at where your pollen filter is located (in my opinion, it's on the passenger side, inside the water reservoir, directly in front of the windshield). This is where the cold air is drawn in for the interior. This air is then directed into the interior either through the heat exchanger (warm) or past the heat exchanger (cold) by means of the temperature flap.

You can identify the location of the heat exchanger by looking in the engine compartment and seeing where the coolant hoses run into the passenger compartment. The heat exchanger, along with the temperature control flap and its motor, is located just behind that panel. I'm not sure exactly how it's positioned in your specific vehicle, but I suspect it's located in the middle of the dashboard and is difficult to access. You'll need to check it yourself, or perhaps someone else will chime in with more information.
