Hello.

Here we go again with this annoying bug. I think I've read all the posts that have been published about it by now.
Well, I'm not much of a mechanic myself, but I've tried to follow some suggestions, but I haven't found anything yet that triggers this error.

Background:
On December 24, 2003, my TDI 1Z engine (133,000 km) manufactured in 1996, decided to give up and completely fail. The turbocharger also failed.

So, off to the workshop. First, only the turbo was replaced, as the engine started normally when stationary, but ran unevenly and had no power.
The old turbo was, among other things, full of oil.

So Turbo getausch (auf den alten Motor), aber keine änderung --- also.. Motor defekt / getauscht (Austauschmotor mit Anbauteile Fa. Meyer)
Now I no longer have a 1Z engine, but an AHU engine.

€3800 including a new clutch, to be installed later.
Everything is running 100%.

At some point, this error appeared for the first time. I did some searching, but couldn't find anything. I eventually replaced the valve (N75) with a new one.

'Despite this, the error occurs repeatedly, but I can't say that it happens specifically at 130 km/h or 150 km/h, or in any particular situation. It has even happened when starting from a standstill at a traffic light. Restarting the engine restores power to the car.'
(For Bosch diagnostic tools, this error code is 023F.)

My first question: Is the turbocharger from the 1Z engine the same as the AHU engine?
My second question: Where can I find the vacuum sensor, or what does it look like (for the purpose of checking it)?
My third question: Does anyone know of a good workshop in the area of Dortmund/Recklinghausen that specializes in...?
Perhaps someone here is familiar with this?


Does anyone else have any ideas?

I'm already starting to get bored.

The 1Z and AHU engines are largely identical. The turbochargers should be the same, but the pipes behind them (flex pipe and catalytic converter) are not.

The 1Z and AHU engines DO NOT have a vacuum chamber! They have a pressure chamber, and it's located on the turbocharger (where else would it be)?

Where does the boost pressure deviate (is it too high, too low???)?

Without specific values, it's unfortunately impossible to provide a helpful response to such vague "it's not working" error descriptions, other than:
- Log the values.
- post the values.

Check all the tubes (some of which are thin and may be red or blue) to make sure they are sealed and not porous.

I would love to log data and post it here in the forum, but as I mentioned before, there is no specific indication of which driving style triggers this error (emergency program).

I've already used the VAG-Com diagnostic tool several times, but on longer trips, everything seemed fine. There were no error codes, the performance was good, and nothing seemed unusual.

Okay, this Saturday I'm going on a longer trip again (400 km). I'll try to log it and see what happens.

I drove 800 km today, and 99% of the time, it was a terrible experience.
I connected VAG-Com and logged the data (I'll be able to attach the log file here tomorrow), but I noticed something:

The number 023 displays the pressure of the turbocharger. How are the four fields in which the values are displayed structured?

1 = should be 'durch'
2 = is 'Druck'

If so, then I never reached the maximum desired pressure, which was supposed to be 1979 mbar.
and the - The air pressure was approximately 1480-1500 millibars.

Could this difference be causing the error 'Intake manifold pressure regulation difference'?

If so, I'll be a giant step closer and be able to search more specifically.

Okay.
The reduced pressure on sensor 1Z indicates that the magnetic valve is not functioning properly, or that the turbocharger is directly receiving the full boost pressure -> are the hoses connected incorrectly?

If I understand your description correctly, you're experiencing insufficient boost pressure. As mentioned before, this could be due to the hoses in the control pneumatic system or the solenoid valve. However, it could also be caused by leaks in the charge air duct. Simply check the clamps and connections on the charge air duct hoses carefully. Any oil leaking out might give you a clue.

Okay, the error I described earlier has been fixed. Two hoses on the turbo were swapped, and now it's producing its maximum power of 2040 mbr again.

'If I maintain a constant speed, say 60 km/h, VAG-Com shows a target value of 1100 mbar, but the actual value is only 950 mbar.'

(These are just example values to illustrate the difference.)

Could this already be the problem I'm talking about, meaning that I'm missing something?

The actual value is always below the target value by approximately 100 mbar to 200 mbar, except when operating at full load.



My thought was, 'Can this engine handle that kind of mileage (135,000 km)?'
and cause something like that?

The engine failure I experienced caused a significant amount of blue smoke to come out of the exhaust.

The AHU only has a standard pressure of 0.9 - 1 bar icon_rolleyes.gif.

Hi,

VAGCOM displays the value as ABSOLUTE, so 1100 mbar indicates a pressure of 0.1 bar above atmospheric pressure.

Generally, it's normal for the actual value (IST) to lag slightly behind the target value (SOLL) during acceleration. This is because the target value is calculated based on factors like engine speed, load, and throttle position, and is therefore adjusted almost instantaneously when other conditions change. However, the actual value is delayed due to the inertia of the mechanical components (e.g., turbo lag).

It's important that the "target" (SOLL) and "actual" (IST) values are relatively close to each other after the warm-up. As a test, simply accelerate from 50 to 100 in third gear with full throttle and observe the values. Initially, the "actual" value will follow the "target" value, then there will be an overshoot (IST > SOLL), and finally, it will stabilize.

I've been fiddling with this thing, millimeter by millimeter, but the boost pressure is always too high!
Who else can help me? How do I adjust it? Are there any settings?

A Wasegate loader does not have guide chutes.
And a VTG loader doesn't have a pressure vessel.
