Post18-04-2004, 11:00    Subject: Car pulls right after tire change Quote

hello,

'After I switched back to summer tires a few days ago, the car now pulls slightly to the right. The tires are still in good condition (this is only their second summer). The tire pressure is correct (2.5 bar in the front, 2.4 bar in the rear). The car also runs smoothly. All the tires are properly mounted. The brakes are also okay (it's not like the front right brake is constantly applying pressure).'

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Best regards, Stefan.

I think the only thing that will help is a wheel alignment. Did you perhaps bump into a curb somewhere during the winter?

Post18-04-2004, 13:50    Subject: Tires Mounted Backwards: Causes & Risks Quote

hi,

I think I've already discovered the cause. Two of the four tires are mounted in the wrong direction. I simply forgot to pay attention, and now I've noticed that the tire tread pattern is reversed on the front left and rear right compared to the front right and rear left. I will swap the two incorrectly mounted tires as soon as possible, and I'll let you know if that fixes the problem.

hello,

Yes, that could be it. Always keep the direction of movement in mind. icon_smile.gif

Post18-04-2004, 18:48    Subject: Tires swapped wrong way: Causes & Solutions Quote

hi,

So, here's what happened:
The front tires were correctly mounted (in the correct direction).
The rear tires were both incorrectly mounted (facing the wrong direction).
Okay, I've now swapped the rear tires so they are properly oriented in the correct direction, and indeed, the vehicle no longer pulls to the right; it now drives straight.

'However, does this mean that there is an asymmetry somewhere in the vehicle's chassis? Because while the rear tires were incorrectly mounted, it was both of them (!) - yet this still caused the car to pull to the right.'
Is there a well-known reason for this? Or are these just minor differences between the left and right sides that always exist, and which become noticeable when the rear tire is improperly mounted?

See you later, best regards, Stefan.

It's possible that the noise was only coming from the rear wheels.

It's quite simple, what's supposed to happen... it's not possible for just the rear wheels to suddenly misalign during driving. That would affect the entire alignment and cause the car to pull to one side.

If you have everything oriented correctly and he's currently driving, then everything is fine!

@holl

'This seems strange to me. Did you also remove the front wheels, or were they truly untouched? The direction of rotation at the rear shouldn't really have anything to do with it (the road noise increases, and the tires wear out excessively quickly).'

hello,

Yes - I didn't touch the front wheels. I only changed/replaced the rear wheels.

However, since everything is going smoothly now, I no longer see any reason to conduct any further investigations.

I completely agree. 'Never touch a running system...' icon_wink.gif

Thank you for the answer, but it's still strange... icon_confused.gif
