Hello everyone.

There are several posts in the forum suggesting that there is likely a reinforced clutch available for the ALH engine. However, why doesn't Sachs know anything about it? icon_confused.gif
My current information on this topic from Sachs:
Hidden clutch available only for engines with 110 horsepower or more. Not available for the 90 horsepower engine because the clutch must be able to withstand that power. icon_eek.gif (Why is mine then defective?)
One could, however, opt for: a standard clutch with a reinforced friction disc. icon_confused.gif (Great, now you'll get excessive wear on the clutch right away.) icon_rolleyes.gif
Or upgrade to a ZMS (Zweimassenschwungrad) and a sport clutch. (and never want to park again). new_shocked.gif And the price isn't bad either. icon_evil.gif

Okay, so who can help me (and Sachs) find the right clutch (or, better yet, a functional and affordable one)?

Why doesn't the (reinforced) clutch from the 110 HP engine fit? icon_question.gif

Where did you contact Sachs? Did you use the customer hotline with those 'Nixblicker' people?

The clutch is produced and distributed by Sachs Racing, which every good dealer should know and therefore be able to sell. I unfortunately don't have the part number anymore, but I definitely used a Sachs-R clutch in my ALH... icon_smile.gif

Hi Julian,

So, I didn't personally call Sachs (including their racing division), but my tuner did, with me present.

It's a shame that you don't have any more information about the clutch. It seems like everyone here has either driven something like that before or wants to. icon_sad.gif

Do you have a source from Sachs that has more expertise on this?
A :(order number would be enough; I don't want anything more. }

Will the 228mm fit instead of the 220mm? I have no idea... -> ask for clarification.

The link at the top is, incidentally, in the Links here. icon_smile.gif

Hello,

Unfortunately, the clutches that Rainer is listing are only standard clutches, not reinforced ones.
Furthermore, the 220 models cannot be exchanged for 228 models because of the vending machine.
The 228 model has 6 bolts, while the 220 model has 12 bolts on the dual-mass flywheel (DMF).
is attached.

@dieselkugel

I had a similar problem to yours, and I also couldn't find anything at Sachs.
A solution has also been provided by the company Hennig(http://www.mahlich-fahrzeugteile.de/CMS1/index.php).
Die Leute da(in meinem Fall Herr Lommler) sind durchaus kompetent. The company offers...
reinforced clutch mechanisms and clutch discs with special linings that provide...
They have a higher coefficient of friction. I currently have both installed and haven't experienced any problems with them.
with a slipping clutch.

To place an order, you first need to determine which type of clutch is installed in your vehicle.
Unfortunately, VW has mixed and matched parts, using both the 220 (Luk) and the 228 (Sachs) components.

Best regards, Frank.

Edit: I also followed Julian's tip, which he had posted before.
Thank you, by the way... icon_biggrin.gif

Hello everyone.

First of all, thank you for the information. icon_biggrin.gif

Due to the vehicle's year of manufacture, I have the 228 clutch installed.

I suppose I'll have to call Mr. Claus on Monday. I already knew about the link from the forum, but even looking at the parts catalog on the homepage, it only shows standard parts.
One question remains, however: where does Mr. Claus get his clutch from if Sachs doesn't have any? icon_sad.gif icon_sad.gif

If not, I will probably have to resort to a dual-mass flywheel with a reinforced pressure plate and an excessively expensive release bearing. icon_mad.gif

@ dieselkugel:

What is the horsepower and torque output of your ALH engine? What tuning modifications have you made?

Hello everyone.

A little bit of phone calls always brings clarity, and there are some things I need to get off my chest here. icon_confused.gif

The clutches (Power Clutch) sold by many tuners for models up to 2001 are simply clutches designed for trailer operation. (Official statement from Sachs).
Sachs Racing supplies reinforced clutches, but only for models up to the year 2001, as the clutch thickness changed after that.

Regarding Hennig Vehicle Parts:
They would install a new clutch with new friction linings there, with the mentioned 20% increase in friction. However, I don't believe the company when they say they can do all of that for 147 euros. I'm not against saving money, but this seems more like a way to appease customers than to offer quality. Furthermore, they believe that either Sachs or LUK clutches are installed in my car, but according to Volkswagen, only Sachs clutches are used. It's also important for them to know which type of clutch is installed so they can install the correct replacement. However, Volkswagen even recommends converting to a Sachs clutch without any reservations. Therefore, this company is not an option for me because too many things don't add up.
But still, thank you for the recommendation.

I will order my clutch from Sachs in Munich and have it sent to Sachs Race Engineering in Schweinfurt. icon_biggrin.gif It will cost a little more, but then I will also know what I have. } I will also get a reinforced pressure plate, and then we'll see what the clutch comes up with to annoy me. }

hi dieselkugel,

I read the article about clutches with great interest.

I'm also interested because I own a similar car, a Leon with a 90 horsepower ALH engine, manufactured in 2003.
Currently, I'm getting a maximum of 310 Nm of torque without replacing the fuel injectors, and I haven't experienced any problems with that.
Wert 310Nm wurde mich von bekannter tuner (österreich) als max sicherste bestätigt (bezugnehmend auf o.g. Pproblems).
If the pressure plate is correct, then it should be able to transmit a torque of at least 330 Nm without any issues.
....but I want to continue icon_biggrin.gif.

Therefore, I remained in contact with both Sachs and tuner (from Austria) after the search.

What do I know:
-----------------
1) Models from the years 2000 and 2001 had problems with the pressure plate (the pre-tension of the springs on the pressure plate was insufficient - the error icon_twisted.gif was likely in the production process). Therefore, often after replacing the pressure plate, everything was suddenly OK icon_biggrin.gif. I've heard that there are also problems with models from the year 2003. And the most common problem, I believe, is the pressure plate. Replacing the pressure plate is often a solution to the problem.

'Sachs recommended part number 881864 999964, which is an organic disc with special pads (suitable for road use, not racing). The rotational inertia is 15-20% higher than the standard disc.'

There's just one issue. Everything else fits, meaning the hub profile and disc thickness are correct, but only the diameter is wrong. Specifically, you need a 220mm pressure plate (LUK).
ALH also offers part number 3000 951 790, which is a complete replacement for LUK products... (According to Sachs: Sachs version - only replaceable with LUK products. Includes DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel), clutch pressure plate, clutch disc, and release bearing).

Sure, here is the translation:

'So, the question is:'
'Der schnelle braune Fuchs springt über den faulen Hund.'
In such a case - despite having 6 screws in model 228 versus 12 in model 2200 - everything fits icon_question.gif.

Hi Leo,

You don't have to revert to a 220mm clutch because of the clutch issue; instead, take your new clutch to Sachs Racing. They will remove the old linings and install new organic linings (linings for street use are always organic).
Unfortunately, Sachs and Sachs Racing are unable to produce it in the same way, because, for example, Sachs Racing is only a limited liability company (GmbH) of Sachs and therefore cannot simply order a clutch from the warehouse.
It seems Sachs hasn't yet recognized the situation.

Regarding the LUK clutch, does it have a central friction disc (ZMS)? I believe Sachs uses one. Regardless, the ZMS is too expensive, and if you're replacing it, you need to know which one is already installed. LUK is not recommended for this part, as they claim their ZMS units are not as durable as Sachs.

Are all questions answered?

Hi,

ZMS = Dual-mass flywheel.

This is this ingenious device made of weights and springs, which is supposed to make the engine run more smoothly and with less vibration.

Hi.

Okay, so two components have the same abbreviation.

But you are of course right, and it is also expensive. icon_sad.gif

...almost, diesel sphere icon_biggrin.gif
In your post and in posts from others (Thomas), there is talk of a reinforced pressure plate, but there are NO specific details. Can you or someone else provide me with a part number for a Leon ALH icon_question.gif? I would be grateful for that icon_biggrin.gif.
