Hello everyone, professionals and forum visitors.
I have a serious problem.
Yesterday, I replaced the timing belt on my Audi A6 4B with the engine code AKN and 150 hp. A friend of mine lent me the special tool for adjusting the timing, which means the timing is precisely set.
I manually rotated the crankshaft twice to check the timing – it's correct!
Okay, now for the problem: When I turn the crankshaft almost to the top dead center (TDC) position, I hear a loud clicking sound coming from the right cylinder head. It sounds almost like an open intake or exhaust valve suddenly slamming shut.
I'm at my wit's end and desperately need your advice!

What did I mess up? Please let me know and try to help me fix it!

Thank you very much.
Best regards,
bastianna

Remove the cylinder head cover. It's best to have a drink beforehand to calm your nerves, and have a chair handy in case you need to sit down.

For those who are concerned: There's a good thread here about the search function, especially for the engine codes of the 2.5 TDI V6.

Cause found!
Today I inspected the valve train and noticed that a hydraulic lifter was empty. This can cause the rocker arm to seize and prevent it from functioning correctly on the camshaft lobe.
I still needed the chair and the liquor, because the camshafts have clear signs of wear, which means I have to replace them, as well as the lifters and hydraulic lifters. icon_sad.gif
Is there anything else I should pay particular attention to?

dieselschrauber - Thank you very much for the answer.

Best regards, Bastianna.

Hi,

Since there's no obvious problem, I can't think of anything specific off the top of my head. Maybe you could review that document again, if you haven't already.
I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.

Best regards, Rainer.
