Hello everyone,

I have a Golf 5, manufactured in 2006, and for some time now, I've been hearing a noise when the car is stationary.

During the ride, everything seems normal and there are no unusual sounds. What could it be?
Thank you in advance.

Hello...

Suspected ZMS failure ---- You can't press the clutch pedal with a DSG transmission, so doing so might make it quieter...

He's shaking quite a bit.

It's difficult to verify that with a DSG, unfortunately...

Is there an alternative to ZMS? Or can I be sure that the ZMS is defective?

Alternatively, the transmission, but that needs to be removed anyway.

Be prepared to potentially spend around 2000 euros if a repair shop gets involved.

I'd like to check if the noise is still present when there's some torque applied to the drivetrain.

When starting uphill, use minimal gas. If the noise doesn't decrease, I wouldn't rule out other causes besides the dual-mass flywheel (DMF), such as tensioners and idler pulleys in the belt drive.
Just remove the engine cover; it's just clipped on.

Wie ist denn der Kilometerstand? Untuned engine?

Best regards, Rainer.

The noise is only present when the engine is idling, not when there is torque being applied.

Mileage: 162,000 km
Engine: Untuned.
Timing belt: replaced at 139,000 km.

Best regards, Orhan.

Okay, then I'll focus on the powertrain.

Hi!
Based on the metallic "clanging" sound combined with the engine wobble, I also suspect a worn-out dual-mass flywheel (DMF).

Reason: I experienced the same issue with my 1.9 PD TDI. I ignored it (because it had 260,000 km on it) and ended up paying a high price. I broke down on the highway due to engine failure. The imbalance in the dual-mass flywheel (DMF) was so severe that the crankshaft broke after the second cylinder.
Used engine from a recycling center plus installation: 3500,- icon_cry.gif

Do I need to pay special attention to the dual-mass flywheel (DMF) when replacing it in a DSG automatic transmission, or is it similar to replacing it in a manual transmission?

Hello,

If you want to do it yourself, I recommend getting the relevant repair manuals from Erwin.
Without a stage or pit in a heated workshop, it's unlikely to work out.

Best regards, Rainer.
