Hello!
The Passat 3C, manufactured in 2008, with approximately 210,000 km mileage, still has its original clutch and a 140HP TDI engine, and is experiencing problems.
Brief description:
- It started with a clicking sound at idle, coming from the area of the transmission. It sounded like something was running unevenly and lightly hitting something else. Audible only when detached.
This noise has been getting gradually louder over several months.
- Now, especially when the engine is cold, another noise has appeared. It sounds dull and causes slight vibrations under load. Rough running when the engine is warm and under load.
After doing some research online, these are clear indications of a faulty dual-mass flywheel (DMF). My question to you: Is it possible to make a more precise diagnosis without major disassembly, or how likely is it that the entire gearbox is broken?
Sure, here's the translation:
'Thank you in advance!'

Hello Manuel,
You can check the amount of play in the drivetrain and identify where it occurs by putting the vehicle in the highest gear and rocking it back and forth on a flat surface.
However, some experience is needed to assess the value, as it's important to know what is considered normal. A similar Passat should be found as a comparable vehicle.
I'm not sure if a borescope can reach the bellhousing and whether anything would be visible inside; that would need to be tested.
