Hello,

After countless opinions on the topic of chiptuning, I'm now 'ach so klug as before'.
Will the engine last? Individual tuning or a 'box'? Consumption?

My questions are for the purpose of better understanding:

Does the increased torque have a lasting effect on the bearings, tolerances, etc.?
Does the engine run more efficiently due to the higher boost pressure?
Is the injection pressure higher?
Does the engine perhaps rev higher because the rated load is also applied later?
Does higher boost pressure damage the turbocharger?
Why should you not modify an old engine?
Where are the weaknesses in the mechanism?

Thank you for your interest.

Hello ObenbeiMutti,

Your questions have been discussed here quite a few times, so you're likely to get very few answers to such general questions. Therefore, the only thing that will help you with such questions on this forum is: SEARCH AND READ! Especially the technical articles in this forum are very helpful.

'However, as every beginning is difficult, here are a few links that might help you.'

Individualtunning or Box?
Powerbox vs. Chiptuning: /viewtopic.php?t=3063

Does the increased torque have a lasting effect on bearings, tolerances, etc.?
Each additional performance increase naturally increases wear and tear on the parts and shortens the engine's lifespan. But: A significant increase in performance should hardly be noticeable in terms of lifespan.

Does the engine run at a higher RPM due to the increased boost pressure?
No, you're not changing anything about the compression. But the peak pressure is, of course, higher due to tuning. (increasing cylinder head gasket stress, but it usually still holds)

Is the fuel injection pressure higher?
As long as you don't modify the fuel injection pump: No (Regarding: 11mm or 12mm pump pistons)

Could the engine perhaps be revving higher because the rated load is also delayed?
A chip can be programmed to develop more power in the upper RPM range, and it can also be programmed to operate at a higher average RPM. However, this is not very sensible in the case of diesel (keyword: decreasing efficiency)

Does higher boost pressure damage the turbocharger?
See Inventory Levels

Why shouldn't you rebuild an old engine?
For the same reason as a New: See inventory levels. But: In my opinion, it's not necessarily more harmful to care for an elderly person than a young person.

Where are the weaknesses of the mechanism?
The turbocharger doesn't like being over-revved. So, don't crank up the boost pressure too much. And continuous full throttle on tuned engines is also not recommended. Otherwise, such a TDI is actually quite stable.

Thank you for your interest.
Please, I hope this has been helpful and has stimulated further reading in this forum...

I also only had the engine chipped at 171,000 km!

So far, no problems with the chip!

A few months ago, I replaced the 1Z chip in my car with one from 300tkm.
He runs wonderfully!

Best regards

P.S.
Hey Manuel, wie ist es eigentlich mit deinem Zylinderkopfschaden weitergegangen? Hat die Audi-Werkstatt die Reparatur bezahlt?
