Spark plug firing order
michiglaser Post20-09-2010, 16:02
Hello!

Simple question that could probably also be answered through a search if I knew what to search for icon_rolleyes.gif.

My Audi (ASB-TDI) is reporting a faulty glow plug via the diagnostic system – specifically, "glow plug 1."

Where is spark plug number 1 located?
Assuming the naming convention is consistent with the cylinder numbering, I need to know which cylinder is designated as number one.

Thank you very much icon_wink.gif.

Greetings,
Michael.

Vuck.

It's a V-engine.

For V-engines mounted at the front, it looks like this:

Damn.

2 5
1 4

This is how counting is done according to the standard. However, very few people follow this method when it comes to V engines. Most people count the cylinders in a V engine diagonally (crosswise).

Damn.

5 6
3 4
1 2

Caution icon_exclaim.gif

In the 2.8 TDI engine, with code AUH, found in the LT van, cylinder number 1 is located at the rear, near the timing chain housing. If you don't believe it, remove the injector from what appears to be the first (frontmost) cylinder and then check the error memory icon_wink.gif.

In Deutz tractor engines, the first cylinder is also located on the power output side.
