Hi everyone,
My G4 has a rain sensor. Recently, I've noticed that the sensor seems to be becoming more sensitive. Initially, I suspected the wax residue left behind by car washes, which, after some time, becomes 'hollow' and leads to streaks.
So, I properly cleaned the disc with acetone. However, it hadn't improved much yet.
Yesterday, I treated the disc again. In the process, I took a closer look at the sensor in the sun. 'I'm observing a slight, partial, and uneven opacity in the lower area of the sensor.'
Upon closer inspection, you can see fine bubbles. It cannot be condensation, because there is no cavity.
The sensor seems to function and be constructed as follows: the sensor is located in the center, with IR LEDs (visible on the edge) arranged around it. The light scattered by raindrops falls on the sensor in the middle...
Und of course, such a haze or 'fading' would appear to the sensor like moisture on the windshield, which would then naturally lead to excessive wiping.
Now, the following questions are running through my mind:
1. Must I accept this, or is this a recognized reason for complaint?
2. If they can't do it better in the workshop, what does a workshop do?
3. Is this a normal aging phenomenon?
4. Is the sensor permanently attached to the disc? Can the disc and sensor only be replaced together?
What do you think about it? Has anyone ever experienced something like this?
Thank you and best regards.
Eike
P.S.: For those interested: The photo was taken with a Casio Exilim Z55 in macro mode at full 5MP resolution. After that, I cut out the detail.
