Hydraulic Shock Absorber Replacement

Hello everyone,

Since I'm hearing a rather loud knocking sound during the cold start of my AFN (207,000 km), I've decided to replace the hydraulic lifters. It shouldn't be too expensive!

I'd like to know what you would all change at the same time under these circumstances! Does it make sense in the long run to replace the valve springs and/or valve stem seals as well? The car should last for approximately 120,000 km (about 75,000 miles) over the next 3 years. Otherwise, the engine is excellent, with very little oil consumption, no oil leaks, and in my opinion, good engine performance.

Has anyone had any experience with the FEBI hydro accumulators offered by *bay? There's quite a significant price difference compared to Volkswagen prices!

Wenn die Hydrostößel nur bei kaltem Motor klackern, würde ich sie nicht austauschen. Die Ventilschaftdichtungen halten mittlerweile auch viel länger als früher. Wobei ich keine Ahnung habe, ob man bei einem Motor mit Kat einen leichten Defekt überhaupt bemerkt. Ventilfedern, die 207 tkm überstanden haben, sollten auch 327 tkm halten. Und longer.

I read in another forum that if the hydraulic lifters make a loud clicking noise, it means they are no longer holding oil properly. I suspect at least one of mine is doing this, and it seems to be getting louder with every 1000 km driven. It's now noticeable even while driving, although much quieter. I've already used hydraulic lifter additive.

A friend of mine has the same vehicle, but with half the mileage, and everything sounds great on his. That's why I'd rather invest those 150 euros now than have to overhaul the cylinder head later!
