Hello!
I've read quite a bit about cleaning the sensor with immersion baths, and I've even tried it myself, but it hasn't made any difference.
It immediately drops back down to 0 after reaching 3200 RPM on my Skoda Octavia with the 90 HP TDI engine, as if it's locking out.
Now I've electrically disconnected the mass airflow sensor (by unplugging it), and now it's working properly again! ???
Why would I need it then? Can anything break if I don't connect it?
Thank you for the answers!!! Greetings, Kylie!

Hello,
Basically, nothing much can go wrong with the engine, except that it might produce some soot in the low RPM range... You should definitely look into keywords like "stiff Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG) due to carbon buildup" and similar issues.
Did you directly short-circuit the LMM by connecting the +5V power supply directly to the sensor output? I wouldn't want to risk that with my MSG, as it would be equivalent to a short circuit. However, you could add a standard diode with a voltage drop of 0.7V in between; even then, the STG will still report 1250mg/stroke. That's what I did, and it works perfectly fine.
For informational purposes: What is your engine code? It doesn't work with this diode trick on another 90hp vehicle that has the ALH engine code. (And certainly not if you try to short-circuit it.)
edit: Ah... now it's clear: You probably mean that you simply unplugged the cable when you said "plug disconnected."
Currently, your engine control unit (ECU) is constantly assuming a value of 550mg/stroke and adjusting accordingly. If your mass airflow sensor (MAF) was severely damaged before (e.g., displaying 300mg/stroke), then this is certainly an improvement. However, you are still far from achieving the 90 horsepower that your engine is capable of. For 90 horsepower, your ECU would need to see at least 850mg/stroke.
Try the "diode trick".

hello?
without LMM and full power? I think I might have missed something!
I think you're more likely suffering from a perceptual deficit!

So,
With the plug removed (without a diode or any other tricks), the EDC uses a replacement value.
I don't remember the exact number anymore, but for the ASV units I inspected, it was (I believe) 525 mg/H.
The box made it easily movable, but not with the power of a 110 horsepower engine; more like an 80 horsepower one.
If your language model is acting up, just buy a new one - that's it.
"80 euros isn't a lot (that's actually cheaper than a tank of Aral Ultimate diesel!!!)"

Yes, actually it's excellent!

Regarding the diode trick:
For my ALH engine, it worked after I deactivated the EGR valve. Before that, it was impossible to drive; it would stall right when starting. --------------------------------------------

Okay, I just checked, and it's an AGR engine, so an older one. Replacing the mass airflow sensor (MAF) will cost around €95 used, or €230 new. Hmm.
Is it worth installing a diode if it then leads to increased fuel consumption?
Or am I wrong about the higher fuel consumption?
Here's the translation of the German text:
'Also: What do you think is the correct choice of diode?'
Ach ja bei 3500u/min verbraucht er im 5. Gang voll durchgetreten 8,5l da ich den Stecker abgezogen habe und dachte er dreht jetz wieder voll rauf. Are you a little tired?
On my way home today, I had an idea!
Would that work?
*) I solder the diode across a switch that can be operated from the control panel.
'This allows me to activate the 1200mg (or similar) injection when needed.'
If not, I will switch off and have a lower fuel consumption .
What do you think, is my simple idea too basic to be a good solution?

Yes, you've misunderstood something here as well. The 1200mg isn't the injection amount, but rather the reported air mass available to the engine. It's best to just buy an AT MAF sensor and that should fix it.

I don't know where you buy your mass airflow sensors, but at MY Volkswagen dealer, all four-cylinder diesel mass airflow sensors cost 85 euros (so definitely UNDER 90).
"Nothing is being replaced; it's just an exchange. They only want the old one back, which you don't need anymore anyway."
Here's the price and my dealer – I inquired about it PERSONALLY back then!!!
Sure, here is the translation of the German text into English:

@dieselmartin: You're right with your estimate of around €85, but some VW dealerships add a surcharge for parts. For example, my dealer in Egelsbach charges €75 + VAT + a 10% parts markup for replacing the mass airflow sensor (MAF), which comes to €95.

Oh really?!
They probably aren't making enough money yet from those mostly cheap items that are already being sold at exorbitant prices, even before any markup is added.

@dieselmartin: You are correct with your approximately €85, however, some VW dealers charge an additional markup on parts. For example, my dealer in Egelsbach charges €75 + VAT + a 10% parts surcharge for replacing the MAF sensor, which totals €95.
They do the same thing here. Our 'monopolist' in this area, with its many branches, also charges €95. I used to think that original parts cost the same at every VW dealer (and a milkshake at every McDonald's ) everywhere. But that's not true! So it always pays to ask around.

What is this parts markup?
How does the dealer justify this self-enrichment?
What does Volkswagen in Wolfsburg say about this?
So, for 10 euros, I'll buy you a here.

Hahaha!
I've solved the puzzle! It wasn't the mass airflow sensor after all! Phew.
The turbo hose that connects to the turbo had simply come loose and was sucking air.
directly above the road (15 cm high). This means that the air was not flowing through any air filters.
and LMM, thereby distorting the value.
'Next time, I should just go directly to my acquaintances at the Volkswagen workshop instead of...'
to fiddle around and speculate about what might be broken.
I was able to try out the new LLM and then return it .
So, thank you for your participation [KYLIE].

Did someone not hear that? Usually, when the turbo kicks in, it makes a very loud noise and sounds like a whole orchestra playing. B.Eng (FH) u. KFZ Meister
