Since I'm new here, I'd like to say a few words about myself... so, I'm 25 years old and I drive a Passat 1.9 TDI 3B, manufactured in 01/97. I'm generally very happy with this car. It doesn't have air conditioning, but it does have a fully electric sunroof and a great comfort closing system. You can easily turn this car into a (nearly) convertible with a simple gesture and avoid catching a cold.

Ruhe...

Well, and then there was this problem, which is why I'm writing here icon_cry.gif.
My Passat used to have a habit of starting well only when it was cold (meaning in the morning or after being parked for 6-8 hours). When the engine was warm, I would have a terrible time. After the 28.6th attempt, the car might occasionally start, especially when I was out shopping. icon_evil.gif
It kept getting worse and worse until the starter motor was so damaged that the starter pinion is now grinding against the large gear (it sounds worst at around 2000 RPM). He's taking it to the workshop tomorrow and getting a used one for €150.

I hope that topic will be over soon...

What I'm curious about now is whether there might be other similar cases where the cause was something completely different.

For your information, the car still starts perfectly even when the starter seems to be faulty, aside from that noise at 2000 RPM.

In addition to that, I experience what seems to be a turbo lag at 2700 RPM in 4th and 5th gear. icon_eek.gif There's a brief power drop, but it's back to full power at 3000 RPM. icon_confused.gif
No change in top speed and no increased fuel consumption. The MFA (Multi Function Display) shows an average of 6.4 liters, which corresponds to the kilometers driven.
WHAT COULD THAT BE?

Since the issue with the broken gear, the gears have been difficult to engage, and this only happens at certain engine speeds.
Is the mill extended??? icon_twisted.gif }

I would really appreciate any responses; both I and my wallet are quite desperate.
The people at the friendly V.A.G service are always there with friendly invoices, but unfortunately, never with friendly service. I REALLY don't trust any VW workshop anymore!

icon_rolleyes.gif I forgot to mention something...

The timing belt is icon_wink.gif 35,000 km old, as is the air filter, and the fuel filter. The seals on the exhaust gas recirculation system are new, and the oil change will be done on Saturday... (including the oil filter, of course). }

Is there any oil that you would recommend, or perhaps an additive?

It's great what you're writing and describing.

but unfortunately, some facts are missing: MKB, kilometers...

Have you ever used the search function? You should be able to find something useful there.

The car now has 217,654 kilometers on the odometer. But the engine identification code... I don't even know where that is located. I've never needed it, not even with my old Golf.

What are they doing about it?

I have since learned that the starter motor has a temperature sensor that prevents the engine from starting once a certain temperature is reached.

IS THAT IT icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

Someone definitely pulled a fast one on me, or icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_exclaim.gif icon_exclaim.gif icon_eek.gif.

Because if that's the case, hopefully that problem will be over tomorrow. icon_wink.gif

But what about the small dip in torque between 2700 and 2800 RPM?
Where can I find the letters?
You'll probably realize now that I don't really know much about TDIs. I can probably adjust the ignition timing on a VR6 engine, or install a head gasket on a gasoline engine of your choice, but DIESEL...
But I am very quick to learn icon_razz.gif.

Well, without knowing the specific model code (MKB), it's hard to say much... 1.9 TDI... a great thing. Most TDIs are 1.9-liter engines.

Take a look in the spare tire compartment...

What about the search function? You should be able to find something related to your warm-start problem there.

I've already found some information... However, it seems the KW screw problem only affects the 1.6 engines. If I get a new starter tomorrow, I'll also get relay 109. But the issue with the broken cable on the throttle body shouldn't be happening; otherwise, the car wouldn't drive straight if there was a loose connection.

It's also strange that it sometimes tries to start with a very jerky motion. It then sounds like it's running on only one or two cylinders... but then it cuts out again after a few revolutions.

Even when turning it off, it jerks violently during the last few revolutions. It's as if it's trying to continue running like the old Passat machines (1.6 gasoline engine, year 1988). It feels like it wants to reverse the last revolution.

Okay, it's late, so we won't be doing any more testing tonight. I'll get back to you tomorrow to let you know how the new starter is working.

Thank you for responding. You are literally the last straw for someone like me.

'However, the MKB is still missing... at least the machine's performance might be a clue!'

Since when has there been a 1.6 TDI engine that has a crankshaft bolt problem???????? icon_eek.gif icon_confused.gif

... and while the AAZ is not a TDI, it is still a 1.9-liter engine. icon_eek.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

By the way, Ulf addresses "warm start problems" in a technical article, and we've already discussed this issue countless times in the forum.

OK... I finally found the article icon_redface.gif.
So, it's probably the starter motor or the cables. I'll check it out this afternoon.

But don't completely lose sight of the worst-case scenario -> ZR gear.
