Brake Light Not Working: Troubleshooting Guide

Hello everyone,

I noticed the following strange phenomenon today:

'When braking, the front left parking light sometimes turns on. I haven't been able to check the rear lights yet (it's hard to see because the brake light is brighter). For some time now, the GRA (presumably a system related to parking assistance) has intermittently stopped working, but only when the lights are turned on. Additionally, I've been getting error code 741 (implausible brake pedal signal) occasionally for a while. According to the error description from Michael II, one of the two pedal switches is likely defective. This would also explain the erratic behavior of the GRA, as it would then receive a signal indicating the brake pedal is being pressed. However, the fact that it seems to depend on the headlights suggests a ground problem. It doesn't seem to be the typical issue with a missing ground connection at the taillight, because the turn signals and reverse light remain dark.'

Before I start troubleshooting, I would appreciate any tips or experiences you might have.

either it's the classic mass error.

or a multiple cable break affecting the brake/tail light connection.

Try connecting the taillight to the ground using a crocodile clip first.

Are there any DIY projects related to the electrical panel that I should be aware of?
'I once had a case where the vehicle owner had installed some wiring to connect his DIY projects. He had stripped the insulation inside the vehicle and connected individual strands of the wire to the fuse box. It's amusing because the fuses don't immediately blow when using low-power devices...'

ganz ausschließen kann ich Basteleien im Bereich des Sicherungskastens nicht. Ich habe nämlich die GRA nachgerüstet. Das mit dem Standlicht ist mir gerade erst in der Tiefgarage aufgefallen, weiß also nicht, wie lange das schon so ist. Die GRA aber ist mein Lieblingsspielzeug und hat Monate einwandfrei funktioniert, bis vor zwei Wochen die gelegentlichen Zicken mit GRA und gelegentlichem Fehlercode 741 anfingen. Dabei fällt mir ein, dass ich auch seit ca. 2 Wochen hin und wieder den Lichtwarner höre, wenn ich den Zündschlüssel abgezogen habe, die Türe geöffnet habe und den Fuß noch auf der Bremse. Das ist wohl ein Zeichen dafür, dass das mit dem Standlicht auch schon länger so ist.

Und von multiplen Brüchen oder Politraumata möchte ich gar nichts hören...

Apropos KabelPolyTrauma

Ich hab gerade eines an meinem G3 VARIANT entdeckt, das sich zwar nur in einer ausgefallenen Kofferraumlampe auesserte, aber auch dein Problem verursachen kann.

Bei mir sind in der Heckklappe Kennzeichenleuchten und 3. Bremsleuchte verbaut. Die Kabel sidn ALLE an der Gummimuffe zwischen Klappe und Karosse gebrochen.

Wenn die da Hochzeit feiern, also kurzschliessen, hast du die Brems-stand-licht-Orgie und wirst dich am Ruecklicht tot suchen.

Wenn dein A4 ne Limo ist, wirst aber wohl keine Bremsleitung in die Heckklappe haben, oder ???

Ist ein Standardproblem beim Audi 80.

Stimmt, ist ein Standardproblem beim Audi B4.

Wird es aber auch beim B5 werden, weil die Kabelführung und die Heckklappenscharniere vom Mechanismus her zumindest bei der Limousine identisch sind.

Ich hab bei mir eine gute Lösung gefunden
Bei Conrad gibts ein 7x0,5 Mikrofonkabel. Hat verschiedenen Farben, richtige Anzahl von Adern, Durchmesser stimmt (fast), Isolierung aus gleichem Meterial und hat auch eine Abschirmung, ist also mechanisch belastbarer!!!
Eingelötet und sieht aus wie original!!
