Hello,

After approximately 83,000 km, the front brakes on our ALH Ibiza (256mm, internally ventilated) are starting to look like they need to be replaced.

The comparison between the real object and the document confused me a bit.
On the saddles, there's the bold name Lucas, and Girling is the only one who knows the details icon_eek.gif.
The (initial) brake pads are labeled "Jurid," which corresponds to the information in the documentation; according to the documentation, the brake pads for the 280mm brakes are from either Galfer or Pagit.

Can I now install brake pads 1HM 698 151 A and new discs 6N0 615 301 D (which, according to the records, are for Girling!), or is it likely to fail because of the Lucas calipers?
Unfortunately, I was unable to identify any VAG part numbers without disassembling the calipers icon_evil.gif.
Gruß Ulf

Hi Ulf,

Even though my Ibiza already had its brake change (last year, the brake pads and discs were at the wear limit for the TÜV inspection, with about 87,000 km on the clock), I can't really help you because the ASV-Ibi has 280mm brakes, and the part numbers wouldn't be relevant (if you still want them, I can look for the invoice... I had it done at a small independent workshop back then).

I'm guessing you have 14-inch rims... otherwise, you would definitely be considering the upgrade to the 280 system, right?

Best regards,

Jan.

I think that should be correct. According to the documentation, there's nothing else available for the 256mm brake system. It refers to the Girling system, but the manufacturer could also be Lucas.

I would go with the entire set from Pagid – it only costs half as much, and there are no issues with the quality. The only difference is that the discs are not coated against rust.

Ah, thank you, that reassures me a bit.

Looking at the edges of the discs, it seems they never had any rust protection applied }.

And are Pagid brake pads available at the general parts supplier?

Sure, you can find it at a good specialty store, or at ***lekl**s icon_wink.gif.
