Hi,
My 2000 TDI (with 256mm Gierling rotors, bolt pattern 4/100) needs new front brake rotors. Currently, the options I have are:
* ATE standard brake discs.
* ATE Powerdisc
Zimmermann Sport Discs (perforated).
Price is not a factor because I can get the items at the purchase price, so it's not relevant to me. Besides, the Power Discs and the "Zimmermänner" are only slightly more expensive due to good purchasing conditions.
What bothers me is the problem in winter that, thanks to the aluminum rims, the brakes sometimes don't respond immediately... therefore, I think something with grooves (like Powerdisc) or holes (like Zimmermann) would be a good solution.
Please vote and explain your reasoning... especially among carpenters, you often hear horror stories about shattered glass (heat stress cracks).
Let me get this out of the way: I don't care about the aesthetics, and I never use the braking power to its full extent. My main concerns are durability (I'm a high-mileage rider with >40,000 km/year) and mitigating the issue of wet conditions.
The specifications for the brakes would be:
* Long-term, no more wavy brake rotors. The original series rotors from VAG have lasted 75,000 km, and that would be acceptable for me.
* Improved wet braking performance.
* good braking performance
"Does anyone have pictures of the discs installed?"
Regards,
Georg.

Hi, take a look at the Ulf Bremsenthread.
NK - HD is worth considering (it's a good option), and Zimmermann and Jurid also offer products with rust protection.
The 256 GB drive is a bit small.
Regarding durability, the Blackstuff EBC is better. Gruß, der Teileklaus

Hi Klaus,
I've also been thinking about EBC... Do you sell any of that stuff? If so, I'd like to see some prices via private message.
"Sure, the 256 isn't the biggest, but the 6K is also a small car... and I mostly drive it in the low or partial load range anyway."

Are you sure about the dimensions? At least in my ASV Ibi (similar to your 6K GP01, but manufactured in 2001, model year 2002), the standard front brakes are 280mm internally ventilated discs. It's also evident that 14-inch rims cannot be used.
"I have absolutely no problems with the 280mm brake discs (standard equipment)... they brake perfectly in all conditions (I have the standard alloy wheels on)."
If you actually have 256mm discs, then upgrading to 280mm might be a worthwhile modification.

I highly doubt that it's worth it. Gruß Bertil

If budget isn't a concern, I'd recommend trying the Formula Z with EBC Green Stuff.
Or is it a Zimmermann 600, manufactured in 1997, with a cadmium plating or coating?
The "Lochriss" incident shouldn't still be held against Zimmermann, just like the "Elchtest" is still brought up against DB. That happened in 2000. Furthermore, many of these issues are self-inflicted, caused by reckless braking by drivers that even the original (which didn't have cracks) couldn't handle without problems, especially with smaller diameters!
Since you said there's no heating, OE quality should be sufficient!
NK 30 9934 HD/ grooved, is listed but not immediately available, and has a red dot.
EBC drilled, slotted, and coated brake rotors are in a different price range, just like Zimmerman Formula Z = 2 (two-piece rotors).
Edit: Rust: The better the braking performance (friction coefficient), the more susceptible the brake discs are to rust. (Stainless steel discs brake less effectively), which is why cast iron discs are coated. Gruß, der Teileklaus

@ teileklaus :
Rust isn't really the problem; I drive about 50-100 km every day, so they're always moving and free from rust. My bigger problem is the wet braking performance.
What can you offer me? Can you meet my list price conditions, which are around 46% on Zimmermann and ATE products?
@Ulf:
My GP01 is a basic 90hp model with 256mm brake rotors at the front, sourced from Gierling. I got the complete engine and transmission from ASV, and I essentially got it for free, and I even made a profit when I sold my 90hp ALH.
I actually don't want to modify anything, because everything works this way, and I've never had to force the brakes to work.
I'm driving in a very relaxed manner, which is evident from the fuel consumption, which is between 4.4 and 4.9 liters.

Why would you convert from a 4-bolt pattern to a 5-bolt pattern? The 280mm brake system in the 6K GP01 doesn't require a 5-bolt design, and I haven't used one either - it's perfectly fine with a standard 4-bolt setup.

As far as I know from some Audi customers, the sometimes poor wet braking performance (more accurately, the long pedal travel) was attempted to be improved during the warranty period using different brake pads. However, I believe this was due to the effect of salt, and was just an attempt to satisfy the customers.
I will not disclose my exact purchase price to the entire internet. The doubled shipping cost eats into the profit.

@ Klaus :
Therefore, that's why I said, you can send me an offer via private message if you want to do the business, it was actually meant as a good deed for you...
Well, I need to decide now... there are still one or two more models with a single disc drive.
"I think the standard brake discs are out of the question... I've heard that ATE Powerdisc brakes don't really offer much benefit in wet conditions... so now I'm torn between the EBC brakes you mentioned and the Zimmermann brakes."

What about the slotted brake discs and the noise they make? My gut feeling tells me that a rougher surface, like the one created by the holes, will inevitably lead to more brake noise, which I really don't want.

Yes, the "egg-laying" one... doesn't exist yet, and the Powerdisk would also need to be louder. The NK HD are also a bit louder... But you can still hear your radio well . Gruß, der Teileklaus

Hmmm...
Well, I'm still thinking about it... Do you have any experience with what people in online forums often refer to as "it brakes a little louder"?
I'm not saying I want to stop listening to the radio altogether, but because of my job, I often drive in city traffic and have to brake a lot, which is already a bit of a nuisance to me.

Hello,
I don't own a Seat.
'But my A2 has the same braking system.'
'And I've been using ATE PowerDisc brakes with EBC Greenstuff pads for 1.5 years.'
Significantly better wet braking performance, and noticeably better handling even on dry roads.
I'm making approximately $50,000 per year, so I've spent about $75,000 since then, and I estimate that another $25,000 will be spent.
Slightly louder than the standard version, but you get used to it quickly. I don't notice it anymore today.
I would definitely do it again.
Both the ATE PD and the Greenstuff are available for under €90 on eBay.
(Of course, from a reputable dealer)

"However, ATE brake pads tend to warp and become uneven relatively quickly... well, I'm still thinking about it... today I was looking into the cost of sport brake pads, I think they were Ferrodo... 165 euros per set for the dealer."
"I'll probably just stick with the standard ATE brake pads, since I go through them pretty quickly anyway, with 45,000 kilometers driven per year."
