Touareg vehicles with automatic transmissions may exhibit a tension in the drivetrain, accompanied by knocking and rumbling noises from the drivetrain and slippage on the tires.
Cause:
The multi-plate clutch in the transfer case has a residual locking torque due to the control unit and actuator motor. This locking effect is perceived as tension in the powertrain.
Solution:
Check the vehicle for any tension in the drivetrain. Drive through a tight curve while in "D" gear. While in the curve, switch the rotary switch from HIGH to LOW range, while remaining in "D" gear.
If the tension in the powertrain is released, a new control unit must be installed on the transfer case, part number 0AD 927 755 AB.
Actuators without an indexer on the distribution gearbox must also be replaced. Tschüss
