Since this kind of display seems to exist in various vehicles from different manufacturers, I only recently became aware of it. I noticed it recently when I was a passenger in a Skoda, which had this display. It was a 90 HP TDI model, which is supposedly built to the same specifications as the VW.
Now, the question is:
Can this device be retrofitted into a VW, unlocked via software, or something similar, or is that not possible?

Hm, are you only concerned about the rangefunction of the existing MFA, or do you not have any MFA at all, even with the Highline, and want to add one?

The latter might work, and you'll probably find more detailed descriptions elsewhere on the internet.

But if a model-specific AI series doesn't "support" a certain range, things probably won't look very promising...
"But I would actually be surprised if the G4, of all cars, doesn't have a range calculation in the MFA (Defect??), because even our Ibiza Signo has the MFA including range as standard equipment."

@ulf

MFA is present, but the range display function is not. As far as I know, this function is not available in any Golf with MFA or FIS. However, I seem to recall reading somewhere that there was or is development work on this. That's why I suspected that they might be able to enable this function via software.

@Calvin:

As of now, there is no information available regarding a possible retroactive activation, which has been extensively discussed in various forums.
The function is described in the operating manual, but it has not been implemented in the software.

Slowly...
The range indicator for the LL interval is described in the manual, but it is not actually present.
I only saw that fuel gauge display on the Audi.

Which advertisement are you referring to?
It's not that we're talking about two completely different shoes.

I'm talking about the display that shows me, based on my fuel consumption, how far I can still drive with the diesel in my tank.

My 9N also has it, 100%.

(It's funny when you've just filled up the tank, you've already driven 400 km with an average of ~4 liters, the fuel gauge is just at the maximum level, and the range indicator shows ~1000 km until the next gas station icon_mrgreen.gif).

The fuel gauge symbol in the configurable MFA (Multi-Function Display) is also very familiar to me from our Ibiza. It also displays the fuel range with 99% accuracy.
@ Jan6K: How about your imported car?

I also have that installed, but it's basically a waste of processing power. One minute I can drive 150 kilometers, but then just 300 meters later, it tells me "0.0, please refuel."

But something like an "old G4" doesn't have either of those things.

I still have that from the AUDI in mind... a pointless, expensive piece of equipment.

Forget the range calculation; on vacation, the display in my Seat Altea showed approximately 60 km remaining after a normal highway drive. Then, on a country road, it went downhill for 8 km continuously with a gradient of about 5% (without pressing the accelerator), and at the bottom of the valley, the display showed 0 km; fortunately, the car still made it to the next gas station. I filled it up completely (51 liters) despite the stated tank capacity of 55 liters. I actually expected the range to increase during the downhill drive, especially since I noticed that the fuel gauge shows more when driving downhill for extended periods compared to driving on a flat surface or uphill.

Hi,

My imported 6K also has this display, and I'm quite satisfied with it. If you have a relatively consistent driving profile, the results are very accurate. In the Ibiza, the calculation is based on the average consumption of the last 30 km, which, in my opinion, makes sense.

Of course, you can "work around" that, but normally it's quite good.

After refueling and then driving 35 km at a constant speed of 80...100, I had already seen a reading of 1200 icon_wink.gif - the Ibi has a 45-liter tank and was not overfilled during that operation.

Best regards,

Jan.

No, that is definitely not mentioned in the manual for the G IV. It is mentioned for the Polo 9N (Ulf will probably agree with me on that now icon_wink.gif), and also for Audi.

However, the fuel range indicator is described without ever appearing in the Multifunction Display (MFA).

Just like the Radio Delta advertised that it could read CD-RWs, but it definitely couldn't. After replacing it with a Delta 6 (the version with fewer DSP settings), it suddenly works.
-> A classic case of adapting the hardware to the manual after the fact icon_cool.gif. I used to know it the other way around...

"However, in my manual, it's described differently. The LL (Low Level) service interval should be displayed, but the remaining fuel range should not (Mj, initial value 02). However, there's an addendum that states the LL interval won't be displayed until 3000 km before the event."
The AXR (Arbeitszeugnis - German work certificate) from my tenant doesn't mention either of those things (start of employment in early March).
It's exactly like you described with a colleague's AXR (Mj around mid-April).

It seems like everything is covered.

I also have a fuel range indicator, but I never use it because, as Bertil said, it's unreliable.
In a way, EVERYONE has something like that... it's called a fuel gauge icon_cool.gif.

example: IHM's ASZ. Fully digital driving profile.

We are starting at the company. Range: 380km. Normal drive to McDonald's (4km). While we are waiting at the drive-through (engine running), the range cheerfully increases from 430km to 610km. You can imagine how HE drove to work icon_wink.gif.

The calculation is based on the average consumption over the last 50 kilometers.

I would prefer to have a remaining service interval like Audi does. However, this isn't available in the Octavia/Golf (and it's not mentioned anywhere), so I always have to read the adaptation channels and estimate the remaining interval myself...
