Hello everyone!
Before our well-deserved summer vacation, we expanded our vehicle fleet by adding a Golf 4 TDI with an ALH engine .
I came across the entry "Action 34C2 performed" in the vehicle's service booklet. Does anyone here know what that means?
Is this a recall initiated by Volkswagen?
Thank you for the information in advance!

This is a workshop campaign (without active customer notification ), where the connection of the transmission console to the body is checked or replaced, as it may have come loose in some production months.
It was due for me as well. However, the workshop hadn't noticed it themselves. I happened to find out about it from an issue of "Auto Bild" and then brought it up to the workshop. --------------------------------------------

Thanks for the information, Holger!
Here's another question for clarification: What do you understand by the term "transmission console"?
Is that the right-hand engine mount (when the hood is open, looking into the engine compartment), which connects the engine-transmission unit to the chassis?

As I understand it, that's the bracket in the middle, which is attached to the car floor below the firewall, towards the center tunnel. I'll double-check in an old issue of "Auto Bild" just to be sure. --------------------------------------------

The same thing was done for me last Friday.
...in the process, the friendly technician damaged the drain hose of the air conditioning system, and then water started dripping onto the passenger-side floor mat. Typical VW!
Okay: After the action, check the air conditioner!

@Holger247
Have you found the article from AutoBild yet? My IV model is also from 4/98.
And if anything were to change, it would be good to know beforehand.

Hello,
Sorry, it took me a while to find the article.
This is a VW workshop test featured in Autobild issue 50/December 2001, titled "Sand in the Gearbox." According to the images, the issue concerns a mounting located in the center, towards the bottom, near the center tunnel, but it appears to be a fitting on the gearbox. There's a blurry image there, and I'm not sure if or how I can include it here. The following is the text:
"Ouch, that hurts! The loose screws on the transmission mount are a known problem. VW even distributes special work instructions (tear-offs) to the workshops, but only one recognized the defect."
..."And when, as in the case of loose transmission bolts, a factory-initiated recall campaign is not followed by seven out of eight workshops, testers can only shake their heads. It's all the more incomprehensible that workshops ignore this, because each workshop receives around 200 Marks from Wolfsburg as a thank you for each car repaired."
Der Testwagen: VW Golf TDI, 66 kW (90 PS), Erstzulassung 12. March 1998.
Here's what VW has to say about the results:
"One issue involved loose screws on the transmission. Seven workshops overlooked this serious defect, despite the existence of a clear work instruction from Wolfsburg regarding "Action 34 C2 66 WWO." What's going wrong with the communication between the factory and the workshops?"
"The error you introduced cannot be detected by the mechanic during the regular inspection. The Volkswagen ordering system automatically displays a special action to the service advisor when the inspection is booked. This information must then be passed on to the mechanic along with the inspection order." --------------------------------------------
