The airbag warning light is illuminated on my Skoda Octavia. The diagnostic scan indicates a short circuit to the positive terminal on the right-side airbag crash sensor.

Where are the crash sensors located?
What problem might be present here?

Sven.

It can be either on the airbag unit or centrally on the transmission.

Most often, the connector under the seat is damaged and should (the wiring harness) be replaced. It's quite affordable.

No, there is no sensor on the transmission that has anything to do with the airbag system. Similarly, there is no sensor on the airbag units themselves.

The crash sensor for the left-side airbag is located in the driver's footwell, in front of the seat. Please remove the door sill trim and lift up the carpet. You will see a black metal plate that is screwed to the reinforcement of the underbody. You need to unscrew that, because the side airbag crash sensor is located there.

Furthermore, the airbag control unit also contains a crash sensor for the front airbags and a safety sensor.

Thank you for your responses.

Does the sensor in the footwell control both side airbags, or is there a separate sensor for each airbag?

Thank you very much.

Of course, there's a crash sensor on every side.
