Quote |
|
Hello everyone,
I'm curious about how much air a turbocharger produces at a given boost pressure, for example, at 1 bar.
What data is needed to calculate the power output? Does anyone have a formula for me, or does anyone know about this?
Background: My car (A6 2.5TDi, engine: AEL) doesn't really get going until around 2000 rpm, which I find annoying.
I was thinking about whether a powerful electric fan (I saw one that can move 15,000 liters per minute) could compensate for the speed reduction caused by the vent.
I thought about mounting the fan in front of the intake, controlling the speed depending on the engine speed (e.g., idle speed up to 2000 RPM?), and then the air would just flow through. Or maybe not :-(
Is that possible, or am I completely crazy now? :8O
Best regards,

Well,
everyone who has a turbo will come up with this idea sooner or later, and then reject it again.
Do you realize how much power this blower consumes? You would have to put so many batteries in your car that it would no longer be able to drive, or you wouldn't be able to stop it with the brakes ;)
And they would also have to be recharged - so you would be slower later on because your alternator would stop the car, or simply burn out.
Let it be and work on the known spots:
- Test the LMM - possibly replace it with a diode - this way it will never reach the Russian border
- 10 ct tuning - provides significant results - even at low speeds
- AGR off - the engine will become more spontaneous, as it will no longer have to cough up the dirt from its lungs first Transparency, Teamwork
... there was another T.
I don't know what the f*ck it was. |

Hi,
you can easily calculate the air flow, at least approximately:
A four-stroke engine takes in half the displacement in each revolution (roughly, and ignoring airflow losses). If you then force the air in at a pressure of 1 bar above, it's the full displacement, so 2.5 liters for you (also very rough, as many things are ignored).
At 2000 rpm, you need 2000 rpm x 2.5 l = 5000 liters per minute with a pressure of 1 bar.
The quantity isn't the main issue; it's the pressure. You need a lot of compressor work. A turbocharger extracts 10...20 kW of drive energy from the exhaust gases to achieve this, and you would need to do the same thing electrically, which leads to the problem Martin mentioned.
At 12 volts, that's over 1000 Amperes!

Jan (who has also considered something like this) 1Z5 CFHF / AHB H4D |

hi dieselmartin,
my AGR is unfortunately defective and I have 2 chips installed, I can still do the diode part.
But what about the batteries?
The current consumption of the fan is 3.25 Amperes, and I don't want the part to run constantly, just up to 2000 RPM.
Do you have any idea how I can calculate the liter output, and whether it can function as described?
best,

Hi,
siehe oben.... At 3.25 A and 12 V, the fan only produces 39 watts, which is not enough for noticeable effects. You would need several kW.

hi Jan6K,
thanks for the formula,
apparently a new system that they have also patented and has already been installed in a Mercedes.
Unfortunately, I don't know how to integrate a website.
This part is being offered on eBay - keyword: turbocharger, it's included there.

that would be a nice little toilet fan...
Don't bother with it, you won't be able to solve your problem with the eBay toy (we were just discussing this recently). |

Hi,
You won't find the thread, it was deleted or banned due to inappropriate content (this was just one aspect of it).
Just use the performance calculation, it won't work. On eBay, only one person sells expensive 12 Volt cooling fans.
@Joergs: Seriously, we had discussed this in the main forum.

Well... that's why I asked...
...how does the diode work, is there a technical article about it?
But I still don't know what my turbocharger is capable of, where can I find the technical specifications?

@jan
You're right, regarding the topic we discussed. Damn, Alzheimer...
@bastiana
Main takeaway: Don't even try it, it won't bring you anything but trouble. 40W isn't the real thing, and the alleged 15000l/min only provides air, not the required pressure! |
