Hello everyone!

'Tonight, after I replaced the exhaust silencer hangers, I noticed that the 1.9 TDI engine in my Golf 3 (1Z) started ticking after about 15 minutes! I've also been stuck in traffic sometimes. It starts with one tick, then a second one follows, and then it stays at that.'
Are you referring to the hydraulic accumulators, which can no longer retain oil? Or is it something else?

Does it also tick for about 10 seconds after the engine starts? If so, try removing the valve cover while the engine is idling and look for the source of the ticking.
It's suspected to be either the exhaust gas recirculation valve (N18) or, more likely, the turbocharger boost pressure control valve (N75). My AHU engine has always had this issue, but it's not a major problem.

Okay, here's the translation:

'Hmm, listen to this: the EGR valve is turned off/disabled. The N75 valve is new! This ticking sound clearly comes from the cylinder head (I opened the hood and even put my head under it to confirm). You can even hear it without opening the hood. You can hear it from the other end of the street.'
Yesterday evening, I turned off the car with a rattling sound, and this morning when I started it in the cold, it made a ticking noise for about 5 seconds, then it was quiet again. A little further down the road, the noise started up again. A few streets later, it disappeared.
It only happens again if I'm stuck in traffic for a while and the engine is idling, or if I let the car idle for a long time while it's stationary.
I certainly hope I don't need a cylinder head overhaul, or do I?

Hmm, it's possible that the low oil pressure at idle is no longer sufficient to completely fill the defective hydraulic lifter.

What kind of oil is in it?

How long has the oil been in use, or how old is it?

It sounds like it could be due to low oil pressure or a sticking hydraulic lifter.

Best regards, Georg.

hello!!!
'I have been changing the oil every 7,000 km for the last 20,000 km, using 10W40 Valvoline HPdiesel semi-synthetic. Oil consumption is minimal. Could the oil pump be defective? Would it be worthwhile to replace this pump?'
or would it be better to change the hydraulic fluids first?
'When driving normally on the highway and at high RPMs, there are no problems.'
It only starts when it's idling... icon_cry.gif
