Exhaust fumes again!

I know this topic has been discussed before, although in a slightly different context.

In short, the reason for this new thread is our "new" TDI in the garage. I've noticed that the G4 ALH has a distinct smell of "sulfur," that sharp, sulfurous odor that is also emitted by some CDIs.
My A3 smells completely different, even with the new injectors. The injector replacement campaign resulted in a noticeable "improvement" in exhaust smell towards a "new car" scent for my A3 AGR, but it's still significantly behind the exhaust smell of the G4 ALH.

My suspicion falls on the EGR valve, which is completely functional in the G4 but defective in my A3. Has anyone specifically investigated this before?
Probably, I will be able to answer the question myself soon, because I have such a strong feeling that the EGR valve of the G4 will break down very soon .

My 1Z smells different than the other small 1Zs, even with the nozzles currently installed.
(I wouldn't have thought of violets, though ).
It may be due to the fact that the nozzles have an opening pressure of 220 bar (which is unusual for a 1-zone system).

Does it smell like violets with you? In my winter A4 with the AFN engine, it smells extremely strongly of french fries, and in the 1Z, it smells like grilled chicken, but not quite as bad.

My car just smells awful... ugh.

When I got a new catalytic converter about a year ago (because part of the flexible pipe was defective), it also smelled much more like rotten eggs.

Now I notice that when running in normal city traffic, it almost smells like a swirl chamber. But if I really push it with a full throttle burst and then let off, it definitely smells more like diesel.

This was all while the EGR system was still active (although it wasn't functioning correctly according to the MAF values).

It broke down for me over the weekend.

When I received my ALH with 40,000 km (approximately 25,000 miles), it still smelled quite strongly of ozone. Now, at almost 120,000 km (approximately 75,000 miles), I think the smell has changed more towards a diesel odor. My EGR should still be working; I've cleaned it twice already.

That's not ozone; those are nitrous gases that have a smell very similar to chlorine.

Hmm, ours smells very differently. When I start it cold, it stinks terribly of old diesel. But when it comes into the garage warm, it usually smells like CDI. It seems to have something to do with the catalytic converter temperature.

We have both CDI and TDI engines here... I usually walk past the front of the cars when they're running. I know that my TDI Golf smokes a little bit bluish-gray in the morning (when reversing out of the carport on a very steep incline), which indicates an issue with the AGR valve. On the Passat, the AGR is okay, but it smokes really black in the morning on the same stretch of road. And the W202 220 CDI smokes the whole spectrum of colors that combustion engines can produce in the morning.
P.S.: I usually only notice this (in all three cases) when driving in the winter with the lights turned on early in the morning... you can hardly see anything during the summer.
But I don't think I smell violets; it smells more like the port of Hamburg when something arrives from the Far East.
