VW Transporter T4 and flashing oil pressure light

I am again requesting your assistance.

I have a T4 van with an ABL engine (50 kW), manufactured in 2000, with 25,000 km on the odometer. Occasionally, the oil pressure warning light starts to blink. The light blinks for approximately 10 seconds and then turns off. The oil level is correct, and the engine runs normally. I use 5W40 oil.

What could be the possible causes? Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Of course, I also used the forum search function, but I didn't find any useful answers.

Hello everyone,

Yesterday, I:

- Oil pan removed and checked for deposits, oil pump mounting supports inspected, oil pump checked for cracks and leaks, oil pan gasket replaced - no fault found.
- Oil filter replaced (VW - original part).
- Oil changed: Replaced Esso 5W40 with Aral Basic Tronic 10W40.
- Oil pressure measured: warm engine, idle - approximately 1 bar; 2000 rpm - approximately 2 bar; the pressure increases with engine speed - no error.
- Oil pressure switch replaced (Braun, 0.55 - 0.85 bar).

For the last 10 km , everything has been fine. Okay, hopefully it stays that way.

The values look good.

You didn't measure the oil pressure with the old oil, did you?
Perhaps we could have saved ourselves a lot of trouble...
It was probably just the pressure switch.

So, I also wish you continued healthy oil pressure!

I didn't measure the oil pressure with the old oil. It was quite strange that the warning light only flashed in a certain load range (approximately 2000 to 3000 RPM). It was fine at idle. Hopefully, it stays that way.
