Hello,

While experimenting with VAG-COM and adaptation channel 1, I noticed that increasing the value results in characteristics typical of a very minor "Pup" connector pin 2/3 tuning.

- The idle speed is adjusted to decrease when you release the accelerator.
- Slight jerking at very low throttle levels, "operating state = extreme partial load range."

I therefore conclude that increasing the value of Channel 1 shifts the evaluation of the inductances of the control signal generator in such a way that the engine control unit (ECU) perceives that less fuel is being injected than is actually being injected, analogous to the "10-cent tuning" method.

Several months ago, Michael wrote a post on the error database about adaptation channels, along with explanations.

Select the engine control unit.
Please log in to channels 1, 3, 4, and 5 using the username "12233".
Select adaptation.
Select the corresponding channel and change the value (which can only be changed within certain limits).

Example: Channel 1: Since this information indicates to the engine control unit (ECU) how long the valve was open, an increase in the value results in a reduction of the fuel injection amount.

Example: Channel 2: An increase in value results in a higher idle speed.


Channel 1: Injection amount.
Channel 2: Idle speed.
Channel 3: Air mass.
Channel 4: Injection timing.
Channel 5: Starting amount.

Michael's statement is completely the opposite of my observations.
What is correct then?

Hi Georg,

I suspect that there might also be a small adjustment capability for tolerances during pump calibration behind "Kanel 1".

It also fits with the observation that the displayed fuel injection amount changes, even though the idle speed remains constant.

So, it appears that in the idle range, only the amount of fuel that the engine computer believes needs to be injected is being changed.

If you believe the theory, does the injection amount increase when the jerk tendency increases (and vice versa)? icon_wink.gif

I have read the soot development, fuel injection amount, and idle speed data, and I consistently find contradictions. Could someone summarize this for me? icon_lol.gif

For example: An increase in the value in channel 1 results in...
... on channel 3 ... on channel 4, etc. ... If channel X is changed, it makes sense to also modify channel Y so that...

And one more thing, what does channel 00 with the "factory settings" do, or rather, what does it reset? icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

Maintain the engine speed at 2000 RPM using the accelerator pedal.

Hi Roman, as far as I know, the channel cannot be adjusted on PD motors, even though it appears in the menu; please also check the search function.

For PD engines, it is naturally possible to modify and save the value for channel 1 (fuel injection quantity).

And an increase in the value definitely results in an increased fuel injection amount for PD engines.

Currently, I'm using channel 03 (AGR rate) with a value of 33368 (maximum value for PD), which represents the minimum AGR rate.

Channel 01 is tuned to 32780.

The starting weakness is reduced, and it runs well icon_biggrin.gif.

Do you have any comparisons to the factory settings, for example, in terms of DZR time?

Has the adjustment shifted the relationship between the displayed average and the fuel consumption during overnight charging?

I don't really like the DZR icon_wink.gif.

'The top speed hasn't changed, and according to the popometer (likely referring to a boost gauge), there isn't a significant improvement in acceleration either. What has improved is the responsiveness; it feels much more immediate. The average fuel consumption display shows about 0.3 liters more per kilometer on my usual route with the same driving style. However, the fuel consumption at each fill-up remains the same, around 7.3 liters per 100 kilometers.'

Since the adaptation, I can now turn while in third gear without losing acceleration like before; it pulls slowly now, but at least it pulls.

Unfortunately, I also encountered the problem described above this weekend with Channel 1 (and Channel 4): The control unit seems to only accept the pre-set value of 32768 and no other value.
However, I was able to easily adjust the idle speed and starting amount – both for testing and saving.

Is it possible that you need a different login than '12233'?

My tools: VAG-COM 4040 + hobby adapter (I'll try it again with a 4090 soon).

Hi,

I can even adjust channel 1 on my OBD engine with the value 12233... but I can't adjust the fuel injection timing (isn't that channel 4?).

The thing with Thomas' higher consumption reading since the adaptation is really confusing me... icon_eek.gif I would have expected a lower reading.

Login is working fine.

I always use a VAG 1552 (I don't have it in front of me right now, but I think that's the name – it's a small device with a two-line LCD display).

Here's the procedure again:
- ECU Selection --> 01-Engine
- 11-Login --> Enter 12233
- 10-Adjustment --> Channel 01 Injection Quantity --> Enter value (mine is 32780, the maximum is 32782) and save.
- 10-Adjustment --> Channel 03 EGR --> Enter value (maximum 33368 for AJM, 33768 for VP-Diesel) and save.

That's all.

The thing about the increased consumption reading also surprised me, but maybe the MSG is processing the higher value to calculate the consumption? icon_confused.gif

I guess I'll have to buy a VAG-Com after all, because with this small VAG tester, I can only read the current live data, but not create any logs.

Hello Ulf,

Unfortunately, I'm really having trouble with this: I can't change the injection amount and timing for channel 1 and channel 4, but I can easily adjust the EGR and initial injection amount for channels 3 and 5.

After trying it again yesterday with VAG-COM 4090, I'm now convinced that the problem isn't related to an incorrect login. It seems that only the original value of 32768 is accepted, and I can correctly save that value as well.

For the adjustable channels, you can test the adjustment range – as described in many threads – by entering a very low value, such as 10000, and clicking 'TEST.' The device will then only accept the lowest possible value (typically 32xxx). The same principle applies when using the highest value.

@Thomas K: Channel 3 is working for me like yours. Unfortunately, channel 1 isn't.
