Hello.

On my Golf 4 TDI (AJM engine, manufactured in 2000) with part number 038906019AM.
More and more frequently, the emergency program is being activated under full load, and also only in the higher gears (5th and 6th).
(In low-load conditions, the emergency program never activates, regardless of engine speed or load.)

Simply turn the ignition off and on again (while driving).
Everything is okay again.

Error memory:
16725 Camshaft position sensor - Sensor signal too low (G40) 35-00.
17958 Height sensor: Short circuit to positive (F96) 08-10 Limit exceeded, intermittent.

'Where exactly is the high-voltage generator located in the AJM engine?'
It's likely the culprit, or is it known that there are chafed wires or cables in that area?
become or something similar?
(Deposits?)

He can't be completely broken, since 95% of the time everything works perfectly fine.
(Full acceleration with no interruptions, jerks, or limitations in top speed, etc.)

Maybe someone has a tip for me.
I would be happy.
Sure, here's the translation:

'Thank you in advance.'

Best regards, Joachim.

(P.S. Tank ventilation is also okay.)

As far as I know, the pressure sensor for the ambient pressure is located in the control unit and therefore cannot be replaced individually.
I would definitely start by checking the camshaft sensor, as without its signal, many other functions will soon stop working, because the engine control unit cannot substitute it with a default value.

Is the NW sensor really that important?
At the beginning, yes, otherwise just organ music.

But once the engine computer has synchronized the injection with the KW sensor wheel, the NW sensor is, in my opinion, no longer needed until the next start. icon_eek.gif icon_question.gif

An engine that doesn't start is even more boring than one in emergency mode, don't you think icon_wink.gif?

So, according to the SSP for PDs, a fail-safe mode should not be activated even in the event of a G40 failure.

"The signal from the Hall sensor is used by the MSG (Motor Steuergerät) during engine start to identify the cylinders."

When there is a signal failure, the MSG uses the signal from the sensor for motor speed."

(Of course, not everything included in a standardized security protocol necessarily has to be considered "official"...)

I've already removed the NW sensor. I couldn't really notice any difference. Also, I didn't notice any real difference when starting the engine. And yes... I removed the correct sensor.

Two crucial questions upfront: Can the errors be deleted icon_question.gif? Do both errors reappear exactly at the moment the emergency mode is activated icon_question.gif?

I haven't heard of a faulty altitude sensor before, especially since it's located in the control unit (ECU). (Okay, there's always a first time for everything). The only thing I'm considering is to check the ECU. Is it malfunctioning? Otherwise, I suspect that the error code was set incorrectly, rather than, for example, the battery voltage dropping or something else strange happening. After all, the error code is only stored as intermittent. icon_arrow.gif Clear the error codes and see if they reappear.

According to Brezelmann, if the NW sensor is not required for starting, it could potentially be almost completely defective, even though it's not classified as "intermittent." It might occasionally emit a distorted signal that passes the plausibility check, triggering the limp-home mode.

Tip:

Error 17958 actually means something else:

I haven't laughed this much in a long time! And we're still trying to figure out this altitude sensor... Michael, if we didn't have you...

@osc: Perhaps a cracked version of VAG-COM was used?

ah, thank you.

Okay, I'll replace the solenoid valve this weekend and let you know how it goes.
It's unclear whether it was helpful.

Hello,

You haven't answered the question about the cracked VAG-COM version yet.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi Rainer,

Would you believe him if he said he had official clearance, especially considering that the Hall sensor error message is also shifted by exactly one number, just like the pressure sensor error message?

In Germany, "the defendant" has the right to remain silent and even to lie.
