Hello.

After starting my newly acquired Passat 3B with the AHU engine (built in November 1997) twice, and it barely starting each time, I'm wondering where the buzzer is located so I can check it. I assume it has one, or am I wrong? (Trendline trim level).

Best regards,
Jens

Good evening/morning.
It is usually a relay plugged into the fuse box. The part number is 3A 095 1307. Please find out, using a wiring diagram or terminal assignment plan, where the corresponding slot should be located.

There might be something to find there, otherwise just buy a repair manual. If there's no buzzer built in from the factory, you're out of luck. It's usually not wired in. While everything can be retrofitted with the appropriate wiring diagrams, there are also more or less successful DIY solutions.

Best regards, Robert.

Hello,
'In my Passat 3B AFN from 04/97, the buzzer is located in the instrument cluster (IC). When I replaced the IC with one that had a Multifunction Display (MFA), the built-in buzzer was defective. That's why I desoldered the defective buzzer at that time and replaced it with a piezoelectric buzzer from Conrad. Now, the buzzer is 'annoying' again when the lights are accidentally left on, but with a slightly different tone.'
Bye.
Max.

Hello,
It seems like the buzzer is also present in my AI unit. Since I'm not very knowledgeable about electrical systems, it will probably stay like this for now. Has anyone ever seen a photo of the AI unit where the buzzer is visible? I don't want to cause any more damage.

Best regards,
Jens

Does the interior light turn on when you open the door? If not, or if it only works intermittently, then I would suspect that one of the microswitches in the doors is defective.

see also, for example, here: http://www.passat3b.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5627&highlight=mikroschalter+innenlicht

Hi.

Yes, the interior lighting works on all doors. The fuel gauge buzzer also works. I also believe that, according to the wiring diagram, there are two different buzzers.

Best regards,
Jens

At least in the Golf, there's a double switch located on the driver's side door.
- A circuit is connected to all other toggle switches and controls common functions, such as the interior lighting.
- The second circuit is connected to the functions that should only be controlled from the driver's door. For example, the light reminder setting.

If you're experiencing the same issue, it might simply be the second ring of the switch. That's the first thing I would check, as it's a mechanical component and therefore more prone to failure.

Regards,
Guste.
