icon_evil.gif Hello everyone,
Hab a
Wrote a complaint letter to Seat, hoping to make my Ibiza compatible with biodiesel. I hope to receive a response soon.

See you all.

Ibiza-style.

They are all afraid that people will refer to your statements when problems arise. In my opinion, it doesn't matter whether the biodiesel standard is just a preliminary standard or not. This preliminary standard defines the properties of biodiesel. If car manufacturers state in their owner's manuals that the vehicle is compatible with fuel according to the preliminary standard XYZ, then that must be true.
The vehicles from the Volkswagen group have supposedly been compatible with biodiesel for several years. Until now, it has also been assumed that biodiesel can dissolve rubber or plastic parts.
The car manufacturers seem to only focus on the fact that the seals and hoses used are compatible with biodiesel.
It's strange that problems still arise, even then.
Der Eigentlich Hammer ist doch, daß VW das Auto zwar freigibt, Bosch als Pumpenhersteller aber nein sagt. What's the situation now?
And why has a draft standard for biodiesel, which has been in development for years and against which biodiesel has already been produced for years, not yet been officially adopted as a standard?
From my point of view, this is a case for consumer protection.

As for me, I will continue to use biodiesel. It costs 10 cents less than diesel where I live.

Eike.

Hi,
Ich hab mal bei Biodiese.de geguckt. Da steht, ab wann der Ibiza ne Freigabe hat. Werd da aber nicht schlau draus. Sure, please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English. I will provide only the translation, without any explanations.
From chassis number.... But I don't know how Seat counts the chassis numbers.
I found another website that stated that Seat cars manufactured from 1997 onwards are compatible with biodiesel.
Everyone seems to be writing something different.

Hi,

According to Seat, my old Seat Ibiza with an 81 kW engine from 1997 was not suitable for biodiesel.

Regards,
Snowfun.

icon_question.gif Hello Jan6k,
Does your operating manual mention anything about biodiesel?
According to Seat, yours is likely compatible with biodiesel!

Thank you, Swen.

Hi Swen,

In meiner Betriebsanleitung von 02/2000 steht nix drin wegen Biodieseltauglichkeit, ebensowenig steht auch im Prospekt bei den techn. Data.
However, my mechanic told me that it is safe to use biodiesel in cars manufactured from 1997 onwards. However, if you take your car in for an inspection, you should inform the mechanic that you use biodiesel, as the diesel filter may need to be replaced more frequently.
I've tried those fuel additives myself, but I went back to regular fuel because I noticed an increase in fuel consumption of about 0.3 to 0.5 liters.

Best regards,
Steffi H.

Hi IbizaSwen,

I need to take a look at it sometime; it's in the car. However, it's probably not very informative, since it wasn't the original, and the originals are in Dutch icon_wink.gif.

Best regards,

Jan.

Hi Jan,

You don't need to double-check. Neither my German operating manual nor the Dutch industrial handbook mentions anything about the suitability of RME (Rapeseed Methyl Ester).

Best regards,

icon_exclaim.gif Hello Steffi, hello Jan6K,
My Ibiza is also from the EU (Netherlands), but the 2001 brochure clearly states 'Biodiesel' under fuel type.
and below that: *suitable for rapeseed oil, compliant with DIN 52606.
I also received a response from Seat Germany, who told me:
