BMW 525d: High Fuel Consumption? Find Out Why.

...and unfortunately, BMW hasn't been able to find the problem.
It's a 525d model, manufactured in 2003, with an engine output of 121 kW.
It's an automatic transmission.

The car has 8,000 kilometers on the odometer.
The driving style used with this vehicle is rather slow.
I would be very grateful if someone within a 100km radius of Munich, who is more knowledgeable about BMWs (than the dealership!), could get in touch.
In my opinion, it shouldn't consume more than 10 liters per 100 kilometers in the city.
If anyone has any tips for me, I would be very grateful (regarding the fuel prices...).

What fuel consumption does it have on the highway at 130 km/h? The city fuel consumption can vary greatly depending on the specific conditions of use, so a general statement about it is not possible. 15 liters seems quite high, but if there's a lot of stop-and-go driving, the auxiliary heater is running, etc., it's certainly achievable.

Unfortunately, since you don't seem to have a positive opinion of BMW employees or the dealership, I'm not really able to help you with that.
But there are definitely some things that come to mind.
BMW just takes what it needs!!!

Consumption values related to a constant speed would certainly be more informative and would allow for a more meaningful comparison.

My brother drives a 525 tds Touring with an automatic transmission (E39).
With a gentle driving style, his average fuel consumption is 8 liters per 100 kilometers, despite having 330,000 kilometers on the odometer.

According to the consumer display, the GRA is:

At 100 km/h: 5.4 L.
At 130 km/h: 6.8 liters.
At 150 km/h: 8.4 liters.


Your 2003 525d should be significantly more fuel-efficient than a 1999 525tds.

The only comparison I can offer right now is with a Z3 Coupe with a 2.8-liter gasoline engine and automatic transmission. It consumed, on average, 2 liters less fuel under the exact same driving conditions... (It was my father's previous car.)
I will post the other values obtained during constant speed driving as soon as I have them.

My 330d uses 8.0 liters when I drive quickly. Something is definitely wrong with yours, but I don't have any idea what it is!
