Dear experts,
Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything relevant in the database for the issue I'm experiencing with my A6. I'm still looking for a solution.
The A6 drives great, with excellent acceleration and top speed. Everything's fine with the speed, but!
After accelerating, for example, to 50 km/h, and then releasing the accelerator to maintain speed without going faster, you can hear a noise coming from the engine compartment, something like a rotating sound. If you accelerate again to 100 km/h and then release the accelerator to maintain speed, you can hear it again. You don't hear it when accelerating, but you do hear it when coasting. It's quite annoying. And before I talk about the 4 Rings, I'd rather ask you all.
For consumption. My old A6 1.9 AFN with 160,000 km needed about 5.5-6 liters per 100 km when driven gently on the highway, with a maximum speed of around 160 km/h. The new 1.9 with 130 hp common rail engine consumes 1.5 liters more after 30,000 km.
Is that within the tolerance?
Oh yes, both were/are not tuned.
I have the impression that the new one has a softer suspension than the old one.
Thank you for your help in advance.
Happy holidays and a good start to the new year, but please, not too wild. |

To me, the description of the sound seems a bit too brief. How are we supposed to help ? It's normal for something to be rotating in the engine compartment . Perhaps frequency, volume, consistency, etc. would be helpful .
To be honest, the first thing that comes to mind when I read that description is a loader. It runs at a speed that is audible to humans, especially when it's not under full load. At full load, it spins so fast that it's far beyond human perception, while at idle, it's too slow.
Those who have already gone through a similar transition are better equipped to comment on the impact.
Regards,
Guste. |

Hi,
I've already made the switch from the VP (1Z) to the PD (AXR). Initially, I was using about 1-1.5 liters more fuel than I did with the VP. After making a significant change to my driving style (allowing the car to roll more), I'm now achieving better fuel economy with my car, despite the higher weight, and I'm not driving any slower.
I'm sure there are more people who can share their thoughts and experiences regarding the transition to the VP-PD system. GruĂ Bertil

Did you move both cars simultaneously?
What would the fuel consumption have been in the VP with your current driving style? GruĂ Christian

You can find the others here:

Both vehicles are currently being driven by my wife and me. There are significant differences in fuel consumption between the two. E., however, is not surprising.
The AUDI is significantly heavier, for example. The climate control system is always running, and on the highway, it's naturally driven faster due to its comfort (noise level) and increased performance.
Best regards, D., who probably couldn't really help you. |
