Hello.

I'd like to draw attention to my current problem with VW.

I took my Golf to the dealership on October 10th for turbocharger repairs.

According to the VW computer, this car was delivered from the Wolfsburg factory 2 years ago on October 2nd. So, unfortunately, only a used car warranty is available.

I checked my vehicle registration documents - The service booklet indicates the factory delivery date was October 15, 2002. It's stamped and signed: Lucky me!!!
New car warranty!!!

VW has been checking for some time now which date will be used as the warranty start date. I'm now curious to see what the result will be!

I've heard from sources within VW that data was entered carelessly into the VW computer system for some time, and that this may be the reason for the date discrepancies.

Hi,

As far as I know, the date that matters is the date of the service check recorded in the service booklet, regardless of when the car was delivered!

My Ibiza was delivered in mid-January, I bought it on November 1, 2001, and that's also the date in the service booklet. That date later became crucial because, starting from that day, there was a two-year warranty period...

Best regards,

Jan.

It seems the clever people at VW always find a way to avoid honoring the warranty. As Jan said, we had a similar problem before. It's logical, after all; the warranty on a Hi-Fi device from Taiwan doesn't start at the factory, but at the point of purchase.

Hello.

I received the results from Volkswagen today.
The date in the VW's computer will be updated to match the service booklet, and thus...
Does the complete repair of the turbocharger fall under the new vehicle warranty?

I don't want to know how many unsuspecting drivers end up at workshops because of their grace period.
to be pranked!

Hi,

And that's the injustice: The uninformed are being cheated, while those who happen to be knowledgeable in a particular area are getting their due.
In my opinion, such practices should be considered fraud or attempted fraud and should be punished accordingly. Perhaps then all the 'friendly' workshops would suddenly become truly competent!

Micha.

Hello Klima 96!

VW has been checking for some time now which date will be used as the warranty start date. I'm now curious to see what the result will be!

Unfortunately, I'm a bit late to the discussion, but here's the legal perspective on the matter:

The statutory warranty for defects (2 years) begins with the delivery of the 'product.'
In the case of a car, this is the entry in the service booklet (the service booklet then serves as a document).
The legal basis for this is §438, paragraph II, of the German Civil Code (BGB).

The warranty - §443 of the German Civil Code (BGB) (A warranty is different from a guarantee of conformity---the warranty runs in parallel with the statutory warranty for defects).
It also starts running from this point onwards!

The production date is completely irrelevant!

Actually, VW should know that, and there's nothing to figure out for a long time. icon_rolleyes.gif

Regards,

P.S.: The legal information provided here is for informational purposes only and does not constitute a guarantee of accuracy.
