Hello everyone,

I was just about to replace the old, rusted catalytic converter on my Golf 3 TDI, manufactured in 9/94 with a 1Z engine, with a new, upgraded catalytic converter. Unfortunately, I discovered that the flex pipe and the catalytic converter are not connected with a flange (which they should be). There's a section of pipe going from the turbo all the way to behind the catalytic converter. icon_eek.gif
Gibt es eine Rohrschelle mit Flansch, oder muß ich das kplt. Replace flexible pipe?

Furthermore, I am still looking for the permissible emission values for the Euro 2 tax class. I have registered an absorption coefficient of 2.5 due to a chip tuning, and I am not sure whether the upgraded catalytic converter will actually upgrade my vehicle from Euro 1 to Euro 2.

Sure, no problem. Please provide the text you would like me to translate.

And a happy New Year!

Best regards,

Rattle.

Hello Klapperkiste,

Based on how it looks, someone must have been reluctant to pay for the exhaust pipe and cobbled something together instead.

The exhaust system on the 1Z engine consists of three parts: from the turbocharger to the center muffler.

Exhaust pipe, catalytic converter, and intermediate pipe.

The flange you're looking for should be located between the exhaust pipe and the catalytic converter!

I think that if you're not from the same group of enthusiasts, you might need to reconsider your approach.
reach out and spend around 300 euros to get a new exhaust pipe. icon_sad.gif

Since I was already doing that:

Hi Golfchriss,

Thank you for the quick response.
But somehow, it doesn't look like it was cobbled together by someone – so there are no visible homemade welds. I've also had the car for 7 and a half years, and I was more inclined to think that it was like that from the factory.
It seems that I probably really need to get a new exhaust pipe icon_sad.gif.

Best regards,

Rattle.

Hello,
There was already a thread about this before, or am I confusing it with the mid/rear silencer? That's also installed as a separate part from the factory, and the marked separation point needs to be cut when replacing the top part. I'll check tomorrow to see if I can find a flange on my car.

Best regards, Robert. Happy New Year!

The 1Z often comes from the factory with a complete part (flexible pipe and catalytic converter combined).

However, the only replacement available are the two separate parts.
Therefore, when my flexible pipe broke, I had to "bite the bullet" and replace BOTH parts.

Hello dieselmartin,

Thank you very much for the answer - I suppose I really have to bite the bullet icon_sad.gif.
The link to 'autoteile-meile' is really great; I hadn't known about it before.

Thank you!

Best regards,

Rattle.
