I'm trying to replace the timing belt on my Passat TDI and I'm not encountering any problems. It's the following engine:
115 horsepower, 05/2000, engine code ATJ.

The problem is that the HAZET crankshaft locking tool (2588/3) doesn't fit the crankshaft sprocket. The teeth or the groove don't align.
I've already tried using the search function in various forums, but unfortunately, without success.
Has anyone ever experienced this before, or does anyone know of a solution?

Regards,

Hardy.

The crankshaft dowel is part number 2588, and part number 2588/3 is the locating pin. So, it should work normally, at least for all the transversely mounted PD engines I know. I assume it's the same for the Passat. As far as I know, there's only the 2588 kit available.

Could you explain it in more detail? I can't quite picture what you're describing. Does the interlocking mechanism not fit properly?

@beckertje2

Assuming you have the right tool, have you ever tried pushing that part from the front onto the KW wheel?

Thank you all for the quick responses.
It is correct that the crankshaft lock has the part number 2588-1. However, the complete set (crankshaft lock, locking plate, and dowel) has the part number 2588/3.
I took two photos that show that the crankshaft stop doesn't align with the grooves on the gear (I know that the markings in the picture aren't opposite each other, but that doesn't matter for the fit).

'Interestingly, when I installed the AWX long version, the 2588/3 kit fit perfectly! As far as I know, there's only the 2588/x kit available for PD motors.'

Godlike gave me the golden tip. Apparently, you can only slide the crankshaft stopper into the gear from the front. Well, maybe others will learn from my mistakes.
Thank you again, and here's a photo as proof.

And one more thing,

I wish you all a happy new year!

Best regards,

Hardy.
