Hello.

I'm having a huge problem with my Audi A4 AFN.
The day before Christmas Eve, my turbocharger exploded, the impeller broke, and the turbine wheels were destroyed – a truly wonderful Christmas. The combustion chambers filled with oil, which meant I couldn't start the engine anymore; they were so full that the engine seized up.

After Christmas, I installed a different charger, drained about 2 liters of oil from the charger hoses, and the car started working again.

The next morning, I started the car again, and there was a huge cloud of smoke, but it only ran on three cylinders.

I've pretty much done everything now.

Compression checked - OK.
other injectors.
Funding start date measured - accurate.
Valve timing - fits.
Boost pressure - correct.

At first, I thought the remaining oil in the charging system would be burned off, but now I've driven about 600 km and it's not getting better, it's actually getting worse.
It also smokes like a train when driving.
I haven't had any oil consumption so far in the first 600 km.
What else could it be?

Valve stem seals?
Oil wiper rings?

I hope you can help me.
Thank you.

Hello,
Did you verschandeln the intercooler from oil residue?
Best regards,
Günther.

As best as I could.

But he runs every morning on three different routes.
Spark plugs are good; I forgot to mention that above.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"Hi,"

Please post the results of the compression test.

Best regards, Rainer.

3-cylinder, 19.5 [presumably a measurement, e.g., horsepower or displacement].

1, 2 and 4
20.5

Hi,

if the values don't represent "eggs" but rather are actual measurements in bars...
I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.

If it's producing blue smoke, I would take a look at the new "other" loader. If it came from an auction house, there's probably a reason why it ended up there.

Does it now produce blue smoke (oil) or black smoke (diesel) when under load?

Best regards, Rainer.

I can't find 'AFN' in the list.

The values are measured using the glow plug threads, and they are all almost the same, so that's okay.

How should I inspect the charger?

Hi,

Practically nothing works below 20 bar.
Check if there's a large amount of oil accumulated in the pipe between the turbocharger and the intercooler.
As a test, try disconnecting the crankcase ventilation system from the intake manifold. If oil gushes out while the engine is running...

Best regards, Rainer.

I have to mention that the engine was cold during the compression test, so I couldn't run it.

I'll check the ventilation system.

There is no oil leak; I checked it today.
Oil in the charging system is not actually oil, but rather a thin film of oil.
I went to the dealer today, but I'm still at a loss.
They then suggested that perhaps a piston might have been hit, potentially bending the connecting rod. Is there a way to measure this?

Besides that, it managed to reach a pressure of about 27.5 bar in extremely cold conditions.
Are your values not real?

I believe that bent valves can only be detected by measuring the clearance above the piston.
Unfortunately, the head needs to be removed for that.

It might be visible in the compression area.
And please include a charger with it so that the motor always spins at the same speed.
Otherwise, the value could be distorted by as much as 1.5 bar!

I found my mistake today - the connecting rod for cylinders 2 and 3 is bent.

If anyone happens to have two extra ones available, I'm interested.

Evening everyone,
May I ask how that could have happened?
are the two Pleuls bending?

Best regards.
Audi.

"Mhh, 600km with bent connecting rods. Did you take the head off? Have you looked at the cylinder walls? It's possible that fragments from the turbocharger made their way through the oil cooler, got past the valve, and caused significant scratches. If that's the case, your least concern is the two bent connecting rods. First, check the rest of the engine; I suspect there might be more unpleasant surprises waiting. The high oil consumption also has a reason (obviously, because the connecting rods are bent). There are probably signs of damage in the cylinder."
And the compression test, have you done another one? Because if it's really that low, just leave the pistons alone...
