Hello,
Is it possible to replace the rotary injection pump from a Golf 3 with an AFN engine with a 12mm pump plunger using original Bosch parts?
If so, what are the part numbers, and where are they originally installed?
The same applies to 260 injectors.
best regards
Torsten.

I suspect he didn't quite hear correctly and is looking for .216 caliber rounds instead of .260 caliber rounds.
The answer is the same, though.

Guste.

"So, with a 12mm pump piston, I think he's probably referring to the larger 0.260 injectors."
Before running the 0.216 nozzles with 12mm pistons, I might try using 0.232 nozzles and 11mm pistons instead. Golf IV - ALH - Erstzulassung 9/99

In my opinion, these hole diameters negate a major advantage of direct injection, namely the fine atomization of the fuel. I suspect the exhaust emissions would be far beyond acceptable levels. You might as well just connect the cylinder directly to the crankcase breather hose. I believe these nozzles are even too extreme for a VNT-20.
Instead of worrying about the coal, just buy a car/motor with a more powerful engine. That way, you'll have lasting fun.

Long-lasting fun. And you're driving with a 10-cent tune-up.

Hello.
My concerns stem from the enormous torque and thermal stress that such configurations (with 0.260 nozzles and a large pump piston) would generate. I suspect the hardware is likely not designed to handle that. A 10ct setting is relatively mild and can be adjusted if desired.
Of course, I would much prefer 0.216mm nozzles over my current 'tuning,' which costs 30 euros and only yields a 10-cent improvement.
But that costs money.
I'm just surprised that you, as someone who drives an AFN, are so certain of your opinion, especially when it comes to tuning, where there are a hundred different truths. You ask ten people, and you get nine different opinions.
How can I reject the sense or nonsense of a 10-cent measure?
I haven't come across any reports of an engine or a peripheral component failing as a result of this, admittedly gentle, measure, or of having been damaged beforehand. Even the 'three-star generals' here in the forum trust this method, and you have to admit that their opinion is not based on propaganda from manufacturers or chip or box tuners, but rather on years of experience and technical studies.
Best regards,
P.S.
Discussions of this nature have a long history in this forum.
And there are corresponding articles on the subject, where people can see if they should reconsider their tuning philosophy or not.

Of course, I won't start a fundamental discussion. I just think that the emission values (which is all I was referring to) won't get any better, even with '10 cent' tuning. If your '10 cent' tuning is switchable, then that's even better for your engine.
Best regards,

Okay! It can definitely make the landscape quite sooty, but it doesn't have to, if you adjust the device correctly. This means that the soot limit isn't the performance limit of the device.
While it doesn't offer the same level of performance improvement as chip tuning or hardware modifications, it's a cheap and relatively safe option.

As far as I've heard, the 0.260 injectors are really too large and impractical for street use. The 0.232 injectors are already better, but of course, that requires 12mm fuel injectors and adjusted software. However, this size is pointless if you want to achieve performance levels below 180 horsepower. And how long it will last is also questionable. Furthermore, it's also likely that significant modifications will be needed here.
"In my opinion, the atomization is a result of the hole diameter and the injection pressure. While the larger piston and therefore the higher pressure do negatively affect the atomization, the effect is not as significant as one might think."
"Nozzles with sizes 0.232 and 0.260 produce the same spray pattern (not atomization!) as the original VAG nozzles for 1.9 TDI engines. Nozzles with a size of 0.216 produce a slightly different spray pattern => for the experts:"
Do you find the spray pattern of the 0.216 injectors concerning (due to engine wear/durability reasons), or are you only worried about the exhaust emissions? (This should ideally be resolved with non-adjustable chips regarding injectors and pistons). Golf IV - ALH - Erstzulassung 9/99

Hi everyone!
Is there any new information regarding 12mm pumps and 0.232 injectors?
Who is driving this combination?
Please share your experiences!
Regards,
DJ.

Hi,
It would probably also be interesting to know the question of "Who installed pistons with a sufficiently low compression ratio?"
The boost pressure you would need to run with this configuration is beyond reasonable limits. Without other pistons, I don't believe the peak combustion pressures are sustainable for the engine in the long run.
Best regards, Rainer.

@Reiner:
Hi,
Well, I've never heard of anyone using different pistons when doing this upgrade to a 12mm pump.
I'm about to do something very similar, but to this day, no one can tell me exactly what works well together and what doesn't.
The topic is really HOT .
Regards,
DJ.

How many kilometers have people driven after having such a conversion done? Or did everyone have a spare engine/transmission in the trunk?
Best regards, Rainer.

'What I meant was, you don't necessarily need to use such a large LD (lens diameter) to achieve a good alignment with a 12mm lens.'

Hi.
Even with 10mm pump pistons and corresponding injection valves, you're reaching the limits of the engine's performance.
Without a reduction in compression, such a conversion is only suitable for short-term use in motorsports. On the road, with a significant number of kilometers driven, this type of modification will not provide lasting enjoyment.
Best regards, Rainer.
