Hi,
Well, a certain degree of car enthusiasm is a prerequisite to consider such a project worthwhile.
As I mentioned before, the cost of the 6-speed transmission is not insignificant, and the complex installation also requires several hours of work, even in a competent independent workshop.
On the other hand, I was fortunate enough to find a company that was willing to trade my old 5-speed gearbox for a 6-speed one at a reasonable price (!).
Ask your Audi dealer about it – it's guaranteed to make him laugh.
That's all there is to it.
I really *wanted* to do it – because, as someone who drives mostly at 80% throttle, the combination of high speeds at a low engine RPM has always fascinated me.
And it was absolutely worth it: Now, in normal traffic on a North Rhine-Westphalia highway, you can use engine speeds between 1,600 and 3,000 RPM to achieve almost any desired speed in 6th gear: 85 - 170 km/h. On the busier Rhine-Ruhr highways, you can now manage with approximately 2,000 RPM, which equates to 115 km/h.
The maximum speed has decreased slightly; it's now around 205 km/h in 6th gear (but only at 3,600 rpm

). However, it's still relatively quiet in the car. In 5th gear, it would probably go faster, but I don't really care about that.
I can't yet provide an assessment of the driving experience, as I haven't needed to refuel yet. However, I will observe this over several tankfuls before I can offer a reliable evaluation.
