Hello esteemed professionals,
After only 6 months and 20,000 km, I noticed in the last few days that the clutch in my Altea 1.9 TDI appears to be slipping momentarily in certain RPM ranges. In third gear, under full load at around 2000 RPM, you can feel slight vibrations, but not yet a 'RPM jump.' In fourth and fifth gears, when accelerating fully (full throttle from approximately 1500 RPM), the RPM jumps from about 1900 RPM to roughly 2200 RPM without the speed increasing proportionally. After this RPM jump, the RPM drops slightly before then increasing again in proportion to the speed. I suspect it's a slipping clutch, but am I wrong?
The car has never had any performance modifications and was primarily driven on longer distances, with very little city driving or towing. Furthermore, I believe I drive in a way that is 'gentle on the clutch,' meaning I have never worn out a clutch yet (even after 160,000 km).
What about warranty claims in my case? Is the clutch a wear item that may need to be replaced even after just 0.5 years and 20,000 km, or do I have a clear legal right to repair/replacement under the warranty?
Thank you for your responses!

This should be interesting, as the clutch is considered a normal wear item. However, after 20,000 km, a clutch should definitely not fail. So: go to the dealership and make a complaint. Furthermore, the reason for a clutch defect can be determined by an expert. This is in case Seat refuses to cover the costs. If Seat insists that you pay for the repair, you should definitely have them give you the old clutch so that you can potentially show it to an expert in case of a dispute.

My clutch has already covered 107,000 km. Of that, a whopping 92,000 km were driven during driving school lessons! There probably couldn't be anything worse for a clutch than that icon_eek.gif.
It still works perfectly well icon_biggrin.gif.

'Often, the clutch itself is fine, but the slave cylinder fails more frequently. This causes oil to leak out and flow onto the clutch plate, which then results in the clutch slipping! (This is a common issue reported in Ibiza forums).'
...should be exchanged free of charge !! icon_wink.gif

If you experience the issue within the first 6 months, the dealer will likely fix it under warranty. However, after 6 months and 1 day, you can only hope for goodwill from them, which is unlikely to be granted. I'm currently dealing with a similar situation myself; my car is 8 months old and has been performance-enhanced. It seems that Audi/VW will not cover the cost.

Okay, let's head to the workshop quickly.

Regards,
arne
