27-02-2005, 12:50 Subject: Engine Mount Valve Error Code: Questions? |

hello,
"I drive a Golf 3 TDI, 81 kW, manufactured in 1997, with an automatic transmission. Today, I had the following problem: I tried to start the engine, but nothing happened. No sound from the starter, no movement, and all the warning lights were lit evenly. I fiddled with the light switch several times, and then it started (although that might not be related). However, it ran very unevenly, sounding like it was only running on 2 or 3 cylinders. After about 30 seconds, it stabilized, and I drove a few meters. I turned it off and started it again, and it started without any problems. Now, the engine check light was on, so I read the error codes with VAG.COM, and the following message appeared: *17978 - valve for engine mounting, short circuit to positive (N144), 35-00--*."
I cleared the error codes, and the light also went off with the engine running.
Can someone tell me what this means? I've noticed the rough running during cold starts several times now.
I also had a fault a few days ago in the memory: "*ABS 532 LL intermittent signal too low*". I cleared it, and it never came back. What does this error mean?
I am grateful for any advice!
Best regards,

Hello,
Is the VAG-COM version properly licensed? It doesn't seem like it.

I have no idea, a friend of mine did it. Do you think the error code is incorrect?

Hi,
"Cracked versions likely have a discrepancy between the error message and the error code. Ask your friend if it's a legitimate VAGCOM software, and otherwise, check out our shop here. You'll find a working and legal version there."

Can this code also be used to make an LED blink on this motor?

If you can't find a 6-cylinder TDI engine in the engine compartment, you should consider exploring alternative diagnostic options, because only these specific engine control units (ECUs) recognize this code; otherwise, smaller diesel engines typically don't have it.
No, the vehicle does not have a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) system; it only supports the standard data transmission for accessing the error memory.
