Strange grinding/squeaking noise

"Since yesterday, I've noticed a scraping/squeaking noise on my Golf. It's only audible with the window open. It's also present when the car is rolling without the engine running, and it remains constant when braking or turning, regardless of how hard I brake. The frequency of the noise is relatively independent of the car's speed and only stops when the car is stationary. It sounds almost like a metal part is scraping on the road underneath the car. The following day, I visually inspected everything I could reach under the car. I found nothing.
