Hello,

After the main silencer and the secondary silencer of my exhaust system filed for divorce some time ago, the moment has arrived - the two are now living separately.

For this reason, my research into finding an MSD (multiple sequence alignment) software began this week with a well-known and reputable chain of workshops that advertises products of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) quality. 200¬ icon_eek.gif

Then, to the friendly person who offered me the part for 245 euros icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif.

Danach zur nächsten Kette, für 110¬ allerdings nur bei lfd. Fiemployment contract.

The third chain offers the same price for private customers, but does not include the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) warranty.

Finally, I came across a small auto parts store in my hometown, 80¬ icon_biggrin.gif.

I have to say that I don't care about the EAQ (Emission Act Quality) for components that are not safety-critical. My car has 230,000 kilometers on it! What's the point of having a pristine stainless steel exhaust system that archaeologists will peel off a chunk of iron oxide from in 2000 years?

What's surprising is that the MSD (Multiple Safety Device) is rusted through right at the connection point between the connecting pipe and the ESD (Emergency Shut-Down) system.
The first company actually tried to sell me MSD+ESD, arguing that it wouldn't be possible to adapt the new MSD part to the pipe connection using ESD.
The VAG employee, with his weight-in-gold prices, refuted this, arguing that, in a way, it would be cheaper. icon_smile.gif

Greetings.

Hello.
"I've experienced the same issue with my car. I was able to postpone the replacement of the MSD (Multiple Switching Device) by about a year by shifting the connection fitting towards the rusted part of the pipe."
"Normally, I avoid buying spare parts from the official dealership because I have a company account with a local spare parts dealer, which makes it more economical, even for things like four MSDs (multiple spark discharges), buying them in pairs in original factory quality, since I install them myself."

Best regards, Robert.

My experience on that matter:

It's better to pay a few extra Euros to Volkswagen and have a part that fits properly and lasts, than to deal with a cheap part under the car, struggle to install it, and have to replace it again in two years.

My electric scooter is over 9 years old and it's still my first one.

I could clearly see the differences in "ease of installation" when comparing the original VW parts I used in my Golf/Jetta 2 diesel to the cheapest alternatives my friend installed.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

Hello,

I also had a new MSD (manifold absolute pressure sensor) and ESD (exhaust gas recirculation sensor) installed two weeks ago because the connecting pipe between them failed (after 9 years). I got them from a parts dealer who mostly sells original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts.

I don't remember the exact prices, but it was for 4 spark plugs (Beru), a set of brake discs and brake pads (Jurid), and an exhaust system (Leistritz) for a total of 465 euros.

Best regards,
Mathias.

Even though it might sound trivial, you can still find bargains from time to time.

...last October, after crossing a railway track (of all places), my MSD detached.
It was completely rusted, and the final straw was the broken banana holder.

Anyway, VAG had budgeted 250 EUR for this part. By chance, I then came across an identical part at a well-known auction house – a brand new part that was a result of a mistaken purchase (it still had the original VAG stickers on it).
In total, it cost 22 EUR, including shipping, for the entire process, from planting to completion.

In short, comparing prices is one thing, but a little bit of luck also helps.

Based on my experience, exhaust systems from iLeistritz or HJS are good and as accurate as the original part! I wouldn't recommend Walker unless you plan to sell the car soon!
The exhaust pipe lasted 11 years on my Golf, then I had it welded again, and it lasted another 2 years, for a total of 13 years.

Feedback (or, for Siemens employees and other important business people, 'Feedback').

The cheap part fit perfectly after I had to shorten a connecting tube, and it will definitely last longer than I plan to keep this car.
The question of quality should be answered by the potential future owner. If corrosion or similar issues arise early on and require a replacement, I will report it here.
The original investment held for almost exactly 8 years.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Hello everyone,

I also had a bad experience with Walker. While the Extended Service Device (ESD) for my then 35i only cost 40% of the price of the next most expensive brand (I can't remember the brand), it only lasted for a little over two years.

Regards,
Martha.
