Hello,
'Can anyone help me with information about a larger turbocharger for my Golf 3 with a 90hp AHU engine?'
I've already installed larger injectors and my own chip! (Constant pressure of 1.3 bar).
But the supercharger should be submerged for a larger one!
I actually don't want to submerge the STG and turbo for a VTG turbocharger and a 110 hp AFN engine!
I'm always happy to hear good ideas!
Best regards, Marco (Netherlands).

Hi Marco,
The same applies to the AHU as it does to the 1Z (because it's the same engine).
I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.
You can't change that without having to replace many other parts as well.

Hello,
I spoke to someone here in the Netherlands and did a little browsing for used parts.
I think it should work with:
The turbocharger from a Golf 1600TD (KKK, the large one).
Intake and exhaust of AAZ.
Exhaust from aaz.
I don't understand the input. Please provide a valid German text.
Just replace the intercooler and air filter.
Best regards, Marco.

Hello,
The AAZ engine has 11 kW less power than the AHU engine, and I can hardly imagine that the turbocharger is designed for a significantly higher flow rate.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello,
No, the Aaz turbocharger is smaller than the KKK turbocharger on the 1600TD. I don't need that either; I just need the intake and exhaust manifolds, and the KKK turbocharger from the 1600, which is only slightly modified!
But the only disadvantage will be that it won't have any boost pressure in the lower RPM range!
Best regards, Marco.

AAZ ???
How does he come into the picture now?
The "large" turbo for the 1.6TD Golf2 is likely the water-cooled one from the RA/SB models (1.6 TD with intercooler and 80 hp).
But it's only that big because it's water-cooled, not because it delivers "an insane amount of power."
"After all, a 1.9-liter engine draws significantly more air than a 1.6-liter engine - and then it's supposed to offer even more than the turbocharger that's already designed for the 1.9-liter engine? That's confusing."
I can't believe it!!

Hello,
It could also have come from an older LT or Passat 1600TD, as I was currently installing an intercooler on my Golf 1 GTD.
I recently bought this turbocharger for my Golf 2 1600td, which is turbocharged.
All the connections were the same, but I always wondered why this thing was so big, like the one on a Sierra Cosworth .
'I also experienced boost pressure of around 2500 rpm with the 1600 model, but at 5000 rpm, it reached the maximum pressure of 1.6 bar. In my opinion, the turbocharger was also too large!'
But I thought it would be good for the larger 1900 model!!!
I also have pictures of the Turbo and my E-Class! I was able to send them.
Best regards, Marco.

Hi Marco,
If I may interject: What do you hope to achieve with the large turbocharger? While larger turbochargers have a better peak performance, they tend to feel much more sluggish due to their size, which reduces torque. I swapped the JR turbocharger on my Golf 2 TD for a smaller one from the SB model. The torque characteristics improved significantly, and I would never go back to the original turbocharger. A diesel engine always excels through torque, not peak power – that's diesel .
Best regards,
Ben
PS: Why did you replace the injectors? To inject more fuel? Isn't that something the chip does, if at all? I only know about the increased opening pressure, which is supposed to allow for more boost pressure.

His loader is not achieving the desired throughput.

Hello Rainer,
Thank you for the little help . I wasn't aware that the throughput wasn't sufficient. I was assuming it was 1.6 liters. Of course, the performance of a turbocharger is eventually exhausted, as it only has a limited operating range. Many people simply assume: Larger turbocharger -> More power and no loss of torque. That's why I wanted to give Marco the 'hint'.
But I admit that I still have a lot to learn about the transition from mechanical diesel engines to TDI engines. With the TD engines, you only had to adjust the fuel quantity screw .
Best regards, Ben.

To be honest, I don't understand the problem the questioner is describing. 1.3 bar is enough for over 150 horsepower .

The standard charger is sufficient for more, but it won't last very long.
The engine speed is getting too high. A larger turbocharger would improve efficiency (making it better) and increase the maximum power output. However, it would also result in more turbo lag.
My friend is running 1.8 bar of boost on his 90 horsepower ALH engine.
We now need to know the standard dimensions of the series turbo.
Okay, so we have the compressor, the compressor inlet, the exhaust housing outlet, and possibly the runner thickness.
Then you can check with a Garrett distributor to see if they have anything similar with the same mounting pattern.

Hello everyone,
I finally got the turbo I was talking about.
It's a K24 Garrett turbocharger from a 1985 Passat 1600TD.
Part number: 068145703c / 872570149
The exhaust pipe diameter is 50mm.
I now have the intake and exhaust valves from an AAZ engine.
I'm now running my AHU engine with the original turbocharger, set to a constant boost of 1.3 bar and an overboost of 1.6 bar.
I understand that the maximum torque, which was at 1900 RPM before the turbocharger was installed, is no longer there. However, I believe the engine should be capable of producing around 150 to 160 horsepower.
What do you think this will achieve?
Best regards, Marco (Netherlands).
