hello

"My Golf with the ARL engine takes a very long time to warm up in this weather, compared to the 1Z I had before. Before I start taking everything apart and potentially find nothing, I'd like to ask if anyone has any suggestions. The PD engines should also have glow plugs, right? Is there an easy way to check if they are working?"
If there are any good manuals or books available about the PD engines in Golf cars, I would be very grateful if you could provide me with their names and where to find them.

best regards, christian

There are 3 glow plugs installed, which can be activated individually, in pairs, or all together depending on the temperature. You can test the glow plugs with a multimeter or remove them and test them with a battery to see if they glow. In the search function, you will also find a good explanation of the glow plug heating system in the PD (presumably referring to a specific device). My glow plugs were all defective at 180,000 kilometers, and I replaced them. I used standard M12x1.25 glow plugs with a 5mm thread connection, and I screwed on self-made adapters for the 4mm connection. These glow plugs cost me 20 Euros each from e***, while icon_biggrin.gif wanted at least 27.50 Euros for one glow plug. Since the replacement, the PD warms up a bit faster below 5 degrees Celsius, but you can't really talk about proper heating power.
