Are there any guidelines or empirical data available regarding what boost pressures are considered safe for VW TDI engines?

What are the maximum boost pressures these engines are designed for?

It interests me both for my own use (or my car).
On the other hand, I'm curious about how those boxes are inflated during racing or rally events without bursting.

It's fascinating to see how, for example, Schlesser modifies diesel engines for his desert buggies, or how Volkswagen does it.

It's fascinating, like how Schlesser tunes the diesel engines in his desert buggies, or even VWs.

I hope you're not suggesting that these motors are comparable to the standard motors, are you?

There is no general rule that applies in all cases.

There is also no general rule whatsoever.

Of course not, but it's amazing what's possible, isn't it?

I'm sorry, but current F1 engines have a displacement of 3.0 liters.

Yep, a V10 with 3 liters, soon it will only be 2.4-liter V8s... icon_smile.gif

I think they were referring to the old 1.6-liter F1 engines, but those only produced power between 700 and 1000 horsepower with forced induction.

Oops, that mistake was my fault, but these things are running great!

Back to the topic: How can the BKD EDC16 be reliably tuned?
I found an old thread, but it doesn't contain much information.

If I flash the chip (do I have to?), will I be able to install the original software on it afterwards?

Do the additional features (e.g., fuel temperature readings) already work with the EDC16 system (and are they better than with the older systems)?

1.5 liters (handicap factor of 2 for turbo engines - naturally aspirated engines were allowed to have 3.0 liters).
The BMW engines produced up to 1400 horsepower during testing, but still delivered 700-1000 horsepower during the race (for a vehicle weight of 550 kg)!

With a good tuner.

Yes.

No... sometimes they don't even work at all anymore!

Okay, so I already have a tuner who sets the boost pressure to 2400 millibars and increases the fuel quantity, but he doesn't say exactly how. His own Sharan with a 1.9 engine has about 150 horsepower, and he's had that for 200,000 kilometers, so he knows what he's doing. I've known him for 7 years.
However, he doesn't have any experience with the EDC16 system itself yet.
He said that if it's not urgent, he'll do some research.

In an old thread, I read that the control units can sometimes fail, which can then cost €2000 to replace. What do you think about that?

'Thank you.'

Hi,
...however, he has no experience with the EDC16 itself yet.
He said, if it's not urgent for you, he will do some research.
The fundamental difference between EDC15 and EDC16 is that the entire...
Regelung von Mengenbasiert auf Drehmomentbasiert umgestellt wurde. That is.
but not a deal-breaker.
Since he hasn't worked with EDC16 systems before, it seems he doesn't have much experience in that area.
to make... The investment of a whopping 3000 euros that he may have to make in order to...
Being able to program an EDC16 can be quite painful.

Best regards,
Rudi

The control system has been changed from quantity-based to torque-based.
Best regards, Rudi

I'm not entirely clear on that. Do you have a website address where that is explained in more detail? Thank you.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any publicly available source for that information.
It's possible that in the current technical documentation from Bosch, what...
I'm not entirely sure what the topic is about.

Best regards,
Rudi
