Hello community!
'After replacing the head gasket, valve stem seals, lifters, timing belt kit, water pump, thermostat (92°), and all 7 spark plugs in my Golf 14 days ago, I've noticed that the oil temperature reaches 80° much faster than it did before the major overhaul. Also, the average operating temperature is about 10 degrees higher. It used to be 90-92°, but now it's 100-102°. During this time, I also performed the following tasks: cleaned the valves (especially the inlets, that damn EGR!); removed carbon and dirt from the EGR valve using Caramba, rags, and a brass brush; welded the corrugated hose on the EGR manifold side closed; changed the oil and filter (using the same oil as before); replaced the fuel filter and air filter. The fuel injection timing is, of course, correct. I mounted the EGR valve as centrally as possible. The combustion sound is completely normal, and the cylinder balance, according to the tester, is between 0.1 and 0.5 mg/H, which is perfectly fine for 180,000 km. The performance is better than ever before; even with winter tires, it now reaches the rev limiter (which was previously only possible with summer tires).'
'It's just the higher oil temperature that's making me a bit suspicious. Does anyone happen to know offhand whether the sensor for the MFA (Multifunction Display) is an NTC or a PTC type? I had the connector disconnected during the repair, so maybe a contact resistance issue just skewed the reading before the repair.'
Best regards,
Dominique.
