Hello,
I'm having the following problem:
I had to go to the TÜV (German technical inspection), and I failed because I used the opportunity to code the so-called "US turn signal" function (turn signals always light up when the lights are on) on my 8P. This is coded in control unit 46, the comfort control unit. Since I no longer have access to a VAG-COM or a laptop with an adapter, I was wondering if I could swap the comfort control unit from my A3 with one from my friend's A3. Would the turn signals still always be on, or would they go out due to the missing coding on the foreign control unit? Or does the coding remain stored in the system?
Thank you in advance!

David.

However, the comfort control unit (46) is not the correct part.
The additional function of the turn signals as daytime running lights is coded in the body control module (BCM), which is module 09.

Sure, Maxx.

How about...?
to look for someone http://de.openobd.org/ who can code that for you.

If things get really tough, consider buying an Audi, and put some money aside for a rainy day.

Oh, sorry, I think I was mistaken and thought it was the comfort control unit. And if I replace the onboard network control unit? Where is that located on the 8P? Audi says they won't do it for me icon_sad.gif.

Have you already visited several VW/Audi dealerships?

The body control module (BCM) in the Audi A3 8P is located on the left side, below the steering column.
To do this, you need to remove the panel that also houses the light switch (I think there are 3 screws - one of them is behind the panel located between the driver's door and the dashboard).

I would really advise against doing that. You could end up with some serious problems.
I replaced the car's body control module (BCM) myself because I needed some advanced features related to the headlights, and you really shouldn't start without a programming tool or at least access to one. Unfortunately, I can't tell you whether the programming is stored there or not, but I doubt it.
The version number of the onboard network should also match. This part has the number 8P0 907 279 followed by a letter (A, D, F). The number must be correct, otherwise you will definitely need a programming device. If the data is still not stored in the onboard network after the change, you will be in the same situation as before.

Best solution:
It's best if you find someone who has a programming device. You can find the postal codes in the http://de.openobd.org.. I can also quickly change that for you. But you'll have to come to Austria. *g*
"With a reputable mechanic, this usually isn't a problem. By the way, it's understandable that Audi doesn't want to replace the entire onboard computer system just for the turn signal; I wouldn't do that either."
