Hey tinkerers,
I have a question. The timing chain (specifically, the "Trieb B" component) broke at 156,000 km, and I didn't notice it. I thought it was a problem with the fuel pump. However, after I realized it was the timing chain, I tried to start the engine a few more times. As a result, it had wrapped itself around the drive D and had therefore flown apart into pieces.
My first question is, is it still worth switching? And if so, how does one adjust the timing chain?
My second question is whether the valves have been affected in any way. (According to my opinion, no, because there was no camshaft running alone.) Since one side has the vacuum pump running and the other has the HD pump.

Hello,
Unfortunately, it's the case that in every position of the camshaft, there is at least one cylinder with open valves.
When the crankshaft then makes one revolution, it will definitely make a noise.

Honestly, I don't think it's worth it. Just remove the affected part and check the valves; there's probably one that's out of contact. If, against all odds, everything is okay, you can figure out the chain issue then. They should all be replaced. There must be a comprehensive repair manual from Erwin* that answers all questions.
I am, however, honestly concerned that at 14 years of age, the individual player's value must be higher than the current market value in order to achieve this.

ASB --> Gasoline engine?
If so, organize a used engine, replace everything, and install it. This would be my option, provided the A4 isn't taken away from the previous Opel owner soon.

Hi,
Remove the right cylinder head. (viewed from the front)
The 1.2 cylinder looks good. The 3 has attached
therefore, the levers above are broken but the valves are

Regarding the timing chain:
Shafts B and D have broken and need to be replaced.
Axles A and C still look good.
2 gears are misaligned and one gear has missing teeth.
I'm really amazed that it still looks so good!
PS: I've read that the right timing chain is prone to breaking.

Therefore, the connecting rods on this side are also thicker, the camshafts are stronger, and the pistons and connecting rods are also reinforced. For example, you can tell this by the heavier cylinder head and the different balance shafts.
If you're lucky, the crank mechanism and two pistons are still usable.

Get the engine running again.
1. The cylinders look good to me and I will keep them as is.
2. Cylinder head also looks good. "I will remove the valves from the 3rd cylinder and measure them to check if they are still straight."
If so, are there new chains with gears, new levers, and a new clutch because if it's already disassembled.

Hi
Even if the valves look good, it's important to remove them and inspect them, as they can be compressed, and this is not apparent when they are installed.
I would also thoroughly disassemble everything, meticulously verschandeln all parts, and re-machine the valves. I always do this when a TDI head needs to be removed. New valve stem seals are, of course, a standard procedure.

Hi, I've now checked everything.
3 valves were misaligned, I replaced them and went to sleep.
The rest looked great.
Now I can't find anywhere that shows or explains how to properly assemble, tension, and adjust a chain tensioner.
Neither on the web nor in ELSA
Best regards
