Intake Valve Cleaning: Remove Carbon Build-up?

I have a question about the grime that builds up in the intake manifold, caused by oil vapor and deposits. Is there a way to remove it without removing the intake manifold?

Yesterday, I gave the engine a break and took a look inside the intake manifold. To my surprise, I found a lot of dirt in there. I managed to scrape some of it out with a screwdriver, but you can't really get to everything that way.
Does the intake valve possibly verschandeln itself if no new fuel is added?

ooooooooh, I can definitely relate to that ...and at least I had removed the valve cover and cylinder head. Even with strong chemical cleaners (engine degreaser, turpentine, etc.), there was nothing to be done->so everything had to be scraped out meticulously with a screwdriver. The dirt was particularly stubborn in the area of the EGR valve. If such a chunk falls into the combustion chamber or gets stuck between the valve and the head....well, that's a disaster!

So, when it comes to built-in manifolds/heads, I would advise against it . Perhaps the oil will dissolve some of it over time... but especially with low oil consumption, I find it hard to imagine!

I'm going to assume that if the engine still has its power, I wouldn't take off the intake manifold and cylinder head just because of some gunk.
When I get the timing belt replaced next time, I can shine a flashlight inside to see if it's gotten any better (50,000 km after the noise was discovered).
I don't have too much hope about that, though.

Is the paste at your place really hard, or does it have a more viscous consistency, like mine? It's kind of like a porridge and only a little firmer directly around the AGR valve. I guess I'll have to improvise some kind of spoon to get out what I can. I can't say whether I'm experiencing any loss of power because I've only had the car for 2 months.

In my opinion, it's a design flaw. The poor person who mostly drives their TDI in the partial load range!

Here's another question on the side: Would it be possible to establish a connection between a car and a PC using a multimeter with a PC interface? In other words, could the multimeter be used as a VAG-COM adapter?
