Hello.
Does anyone know the part number for the early SDI 1.9 injection pumps where the gas was still controlled mechanically?
Best regards, Kopi.

SDI has never been available with mechanical throttle.
You probably mean a regular, naturally aspirated diesel engine.

Could you perhaps provide some specifications of the vehicle in which the pump is supposed to be installed?

e.g., a Volkswagen Golf 2 1.6 diesel engine, 54 horsepower.

I believe these pumps were available on the 1996 models with a 1.9L engine and 64 horsepower. They were also used without the needle lift valve, but already with an engine control unit.
Best regards, Kopi.

Hi,

Those were still swirl chamber engines (like the 1Y, for example).
"Pictures or diagrams would be helpful; I'm assuming it's a pump with a LaFB (likely referring to a specific type of fire extinguishing agent)."

SDIs exclusively use VP37.

Best regards, Michael.

LaFB = Start of support with reduced load.

Or it might have been a model with a theft-deterrent system, which would have had a slightly more powerful motor.

I asked at a Skoda and VW workshop, and they told me that the first SDI engines had mechanical gas systems.
Best regards, Kopi.

YES?

And "DIE WERKSTATT" (a workshop) asked me if a Golf TDI has an AGR valve.

To summarize again:

- SDIs were developed AFTER TDIs - therefore, they are derived from TDIs.
- All xDI models from Volkswagen (passenger cars) have electronic throttle control and no mechanical linkage.
"We would like the "first SDI" models to be described in more detail, including the year of manufacture and other relevant data."

I can only think of the 1.9 SDI engine in the Golf 3, Polo, and the 1.7 SDI (AKU) engine in the Polo.

(excluding the new 2.0 SDI PD models for now).

If the information comes from a workshop, they might even be able to mention the engine code (if they know what that is, of course).

Spoken to a salesperson? icon_wink.gif

where the "mechanics" are often just parts replacers... and if they can't find an OBD connector, they panic icon_rolleyes.gif.

And yes: I also want to see MKB (presumably referring to a specific component or feature), because then there would be no need for makeshift solutions on the mTDI (presumably referring to a specific device or system).

No offense.

Best regards, Michael.

I actually spoke with skilled mechanics, and they told me that the first pumps had a mechanical gas system. At the time, I hadn't asked about the part number, so I thought I'd ask the diesel experts. And now, is the pump not available?
On Gebrauchte Autoteile com, there's a listing with a picture. If you search for "SDI fuel injection pump" on Google, you'll find it. Maybe they've mixed something up.
Best regards, Kopi.

If you're referring to the AEF:

This is NOT an SDI - it's a swirl chamber direct injection diesel engine, simply an SD.
You can immediately recognize it by the injectors. Specifically, these are nozzle injectors, not hole injectors.
Yes, they had the mechanical adjustment shaft. Just like all Golf 1 D models, Golf 2 D models, and swirl chamber engines in general.

But wasn't the AEF the cheap Lucas fuel injection pump diesel that you can also run on rapeseed oil, but only for about 200 meters before it breaks down?

Okay, so...

"I am also unaware of such a thing; there is no SDI with a mechanical pump! I have been working on a mTDI (or rather, have been working on it for over a year), and it works really well. Now I am preparing a pump from a Fiat Ducato 2.5l DTI (there is also one for the 2.8l engine) – it originally has a 11mm piston inside! icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif"

Does anyone have experience with this?

Best regards,
