AAZ Vibration Dampers

Beim letzten Zahnriemenwechsel an meinem AAZ hatten wir irrtümlich die Killerschraube geöffnet (war schon eine verstärkte), und weil ich da trotz festknallen kein Risiko eingehen wollte, habe ich sie beim Freundlichen nochmal wechseln lassen. Der Meister meinte dann, mein Schwingungsdämpfer (in der Riemenscheibe für die LiMa) sei fällig. Ich kann an dem Teil aber keine Schäden entdecken, die Scheibe läuft rund und geräuschfrei (etwa 260TKM alt). Weiss maybe someone
- how to identify critical wear on a shock absorber.
- which signs indicate imminent failure of the component?
- and what happens if it breaks?
I would be very grateful for any tips, as the price of the spare part is quite high.

The pulley is called a generator freewheel and costs approximately 90€.
To replace it, you will need a special tool.
A telltale sign of a defect is a wobbly tensioner pulley.

You're talking past each other.

The vibration damper is the disc on the crankshaft (it drives the V-ribbed belt).
Costs 200-300 EUR.

A free-running clutch and a price of 90 EUR, and being *on* the clutch cover, are different things.

The AAZ engine didn't have a built-in idle speed control from the fuel injection pump, so it can't be broken. However, retrofitting one is a good idea.

I think the mechanic meant that the vibration damper is cracked. But if it's not running right now, I wouldn't get too worked up about it on such an old AAZ engine.

Thanks for the tips, I'll keep an eye on this item and, in the meantime, I'll look for something more affordable on eBay.
I meant the vibration damper on the crankshaft (part number 028 105 243 T).
What is the actual benefit of the LiMa free-running mode?

I would quickly forget about that book.
Because you're guaranteed to find a shock absorber that looks even worse than yours.

The freewheel disengages the alternator from the serpentine belt in one direction.

It doesn't pull on the belt and doesn't press down on the tension arm.

Be honest, 'vibration damper (in the pulley for the alternator)' can be easily misunderstood, right?
Especially since the AAZ, starting from production year 9/94, also had a generator freewheel 028 903 119 AA and P.
I bought this tool to replace the freewheel on an AAZ engine.

Actually, the AAZ engine had a free-running turbo, while the 1Z did not, and the AFN engine had it again.

That was designed with an engineering mindset.

I had assumed that the free-running clutch (like the ZMS) was "re-invented" with the AFN engine and only fits older Limas due to parts compatibility.

That must have been wrong.
